Boy Applies Rear Naked Choke to Pit Bull

Nine year old Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Drew Heredia is a hero.
In a move that seems more likely to be found in a Jackie Chan movie than real life, Heredia saved a 12 year old girl from a pit bull by holding the animal in a rear naked choke hold he learned from Bakersfield Jiu Jitsu (California) until authorities arrived.

Talk about courage.

Apparently, Heredia and his female neighbor were out getting the mail when a pit bull attacked the girl’s dachshund. When the girl tried to step in, the pit bull started attacking her instead. That’s when the nine year old took matters into his own hands, taking the dog’s back and applying the choke for more than 20 minutes until Animal Control finally arrived.

“He was moving really hard, like one of those rodeo bulls,” Heredia said, according to an article at Living in the Whine Country . “Then he went limp (during the choke).”

I think it's a pretty positive story.. An 9 year old kid subdued an attacking Pit Bull with a Ju Jitzu move.

- The little girl and her Daschund seem to be okay and the Pit wasn't hurt either.. He just got choked out like a little bitch.. lol..

I have a friend who was attacked TWICE by dogs. (Yes, he had seriously bad luck!) The first time was two Pit Bulls and a Rottweiler and the second time was a single Pit Bull. In both instances I think the dogs went after my friend's Golden Retriever and then turned on him. Both times involved irresponsible owners who let their dogs get out of the yard and dog-aggressive dogs. He got pretty jacked up both times. Incidentally he now owns a Rottweiler who is gentle as a lamb, as do I. We have no bias against Rottweilers.

I come across Pit Bulls fairly regularly and I'm always ready to pepper spray them or a more lethal alternative but I must add that the circumstances of my coming across them are not friendly and the people who own them are even less friendly. I blame that on the 'hood mentality to have a guard dog that lives outside 24/7 and has zero socializtion or training.

didn't accept the big dog's dominance... really.. its called pack drive. aggression to other dogs is either from being attacked before or the dog wants to be pack leader over the other dog.

i too have choked out a dog. same dog twice actually. this is before i learned about pack drive and pack leaders.

about 8 years ago, we adopted a gsd from my old boss. the pup had grown out of control and too strong for them to control as do most high energy large puppies do. so we adopted him at 1 year old and about 110lbs.. we've always had gsd's as i was growing up (my current 2 pups are #8 and 9). anyways, when Max turned 3-3.5, he decided he was big enough to challenge me for leadership and snapped and growled at me. he jumped at my face and snapped so i swept his lower half and went into the same naked choke the kid in the story used. Max continued to growl and was trying to kick and wiggle his way out but continued to try to snap at me so i ended up choking him till he passed out.

2 days later, we took him to my parents house. in the back yard, he jumped me from behind and pushed me down then started growling and snarling again. when he launched to bite at my head again, i clocked him on the side of the head and swept his lower half again. this time, i was pissed beyond belief so i had one of his arms locked in a semi half-nelson choke from the side and was looking to kill him this time. foam coming out of his mouth, he couldn't move nor yelp or make any other noise. my dad had to pull me off.

i thought Max had a medical condition and was turning aggressive on me. other then that i didn't raise Max since a puppy and didn't think i had to establish strong pack leadership with him.

from that day on, all i do is give him a firm down command from anywhere and he immediately lays down. he won't approach any dog even without a leash until he looks at me for permission.

now at 12 yrs old, he's been perfect dog ever since that leadership establishing session...

The Golden was dealing with one of the dogs while the two others chewed on my friend. The second attack with the single Pit Bull ended with my friend, who is not a small guy, doing the Brazilian ground fighting and held the dog until help arrived. Firefighters showed up and duct taped the dogs legs while my friend held it.

Nah I meant what did the GR do when the owner was getting attacked. I assumed the other three dogs weren't part of this pack.

Max sounds like he would've been good Dog Whisperer material. Although your two sparring sessions were pretty efficient in accomplishing what you needed to for the long run.

you'd be surprise what they edit out of the dog whisperer. cesar has had choked dogs out with the choke chains and other correction halters.

many of the socal handlers that have worked with him have commented that cesar wishes they would show more of the "real" work and not all those feel good stories
