1 Series.....whatcha think? **UPDATE**

Well gang, I'm considering the 1 series as a replacement for the Cooper S. I drove the new Mini and the interior just doesn't do it for me. The CEO hasn't driven it yet, but I'm guessing it won't appeal to her either. At the end of the day it's going to be her decision on what she drives. I know many will say get a 3 series but the 1 has a different look and appeal. I need some expert thoughts on the 1 series........Phil

my CFO wants a 1 series vert now (wtf, thats a first for her), and there are loads of leftovers if you want a great deal. they're GREAT cars IMO, and RWD ftw.

...I stopped in Germain BMW, here in la di da Naples, FL the other day for a quick
peruse of their lot: they must have a dozenish 1ers in diff. configurations, and several were
Cab Re Ohs.
Their web site only lists about 8 or 9 "new", but I bet they had 15 on their lot. They also
had rows of X5s/X3s, several X6s, and lots of other inventory. The place was empty except
for service...fwiw. Forgot to bring my lil' Canon S50, though.

Times are different; cars are sitting, floor plan is eating the dlrs up. I would guess most will
take any "remotely reasonable" offer.

I have driven a few 135's and they are fun and a bit scary fast. The speed comes up on you pretty quickly. It's a solid car, well built, and I think looks pretty good in the right color. I must say that Alpine White or Titanium Silver are about the best colors for the 1er.

I think the 1er only makes sense financially if you get a stripper. A 135 can get pricey pretty fast once you start adding options and it takes you too close to what you could get a slightly less equipped 3er coupe. Plus I think the 1er doesn't really suit all the bells and whistles. It's an entry level car and loading it to the gills seems out of step.

Are you considering the 128 or 135?

The only down side to a 135 is that it gets the same MPG as my 5.
It also real fast thanks to the engine and gearing.

The Mini gets much better MPG.

Not sure which one yet. The CEO and I will have one to drive for a day next week. Not sure which one the dealer will loan me. I too am of the thinking.....the 135 is too pricey for what you get. With that being said, I don't want a 3 series and the CEO has never expressed interest in one. She has mentioned a X3, but that won't happen. (no dis to you X3 owners) ......Phil

Well here are my thoughts on the 1 series. I had a 135 w///M sport package for 4 days. This car is all about the "Fun Factor". It's truly a BMW....from the sweet sound of the exhaust, to the massive azz brakes and right down to the rough ride. The appointments in the car are that of an entry level BMW, but if you want ride and not fluff....this is a great way to get it. I did notice some body roll but it wasn't bad. I'm sure the short wheel base helped counter this some. When you step on the accelerator, this car wants to go and go now. I had to catch myself on a few occasions. Long story short, great car if you have extra cash and want to spend it on something fun. The CEO will probably get another Cooper S. She was less impressed because of the looks of the 1. She's not a fan of the front quarter of the car. One last point in case BMW is reading.....this car is really over priced but I'm sure you've heard that many times. The demo I had was around 44K and it was a coupe with limited options on it....other than that, it was hella fun to drive.......Phil

It thought that BMW had lots of 2008 1's sitting around and not many Cooper S?

It would seem that you could get a better deal on the BMW?
