If Anyone Watches Lifetime Tv (Or has it)

I highly recommend watching (or Tivo'ing) "Prayers for Bobby"

It was a Red Carper Premier last night and I watched it with my family and couldn't recommend more to anyone. It's a spectacular movie that shows what happens when hate is allowed to thrive.

The movie (10 years in the making) is based on the book by Leroy F. Aarons (who has since deceased) that discusses the life of Bobby Griffith who killed himself by jumping off a highway overpass because he was gay. The movie focuses also on Bobby's mother Mary Griffith who's deep religions beliefs conflict with her son's homosexuality. When her child comes out to her she goes through the process of attempting to "change" her songs sexuality, forever severing their relationship. Upon her son killing himself she begins to question her beliefs and what part she played in his death. This moves her on a journey to remember her son and fight for people like him. She bravely stands up in front of her community and with the backing of PFLAG (Parents Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) she fights for equal rights for all Gay and Lesbian people in the name of her son Bobby. She has become a hero to the gay community and is known worldwide for her tireless fight and her endless strength.

I recommend this movie to anyone, it will be hard to not be moved by this movie.

My Favorite quote of the movie:

"I didn't know that each time I echoed eternal damnation for gay people, each time I referred to Bobby as sick and perverted, a danger to our children his self esteem, his sense of worth were being destroyed, his spirit broken beyond repair, it was not God's will that bobby climb over the side of a freeway overpass and jump into the path of an 18 wheel truck that killed him instantly, Bobby's death was a direct result of his parents ignorance and fear of the word. Bobby wanted to be a writer, his hopes and dreams should not have been taken from him but they were , there are children like Bobby, sitting in your congregations unknown to you they will be listening as you echo "Amen" and that will silence their prayers for tolerance and acceptance "
