I know I don't stop by that often, but for what it's worth, whenever I need a sound piece of advice or guidance, I still make a point to stop here. X5world's slogan couldn't have been more true ![]() And so I come back yet again with a question that MAY be inappropriate for the forums -- I really don't know? -- so please, Moderators, delete if necessary. Simply put, click this link (http://www.calbar.org/newsletters/la..._ejournal.html) and then click on the first story -- A BLEAKER JOB MARKET. Yes, that photo is me, the day I was sworn in as a new Cali attorney on December 4, 2008. If you don't feel like skimming the article, my story is simple: I had a great summer associate position last summer with a big corporate firm. They offered me a job upon successfully passing the California bar, which I did. (In fact, I did so well on the MBE, that I can waive into DC and Minnesota, having scored above a 135 and 145, respectively.) But the law firm tanked shortly before getting my results, an early casualty in this dismal economy. My backup plan was to follow the senior attorney with whom I had worked to his new corporate firm, but then THAT firm placed a nation-wide hiring freeze across the board for all but the most experienced of partners! I'm sure one day, looking back on this double-bad-luck, I'll probably be able to laugh about it. But not today. Instead, here I am now, desperately seeking a job as a recently admitted attorney. And so far, I feel like I just switched off DSC on snow/ice and floored the gas pedal. To those of you who are attorneys in LA (or even SF), I'd love the chance to shoot you my resume and set up an interview. I know economic times are rough, and so I would happily take a position for less pay that usual. At this point though, I desperately miss the law and can't wait to get my career underway. I just ... want to practice law! My preference is corporate, but quite frankly, I really DO love nearly ALL flavors of the law, and accordingly, I'm happy to entertain any offers. So: anybody looking for a new attorney? ![]() Thanks for any leads Everyone. It means a lot to me.... --Marc

Welcome to the real (cruel) world.
For those with a good head on their shoulder the current econ situ is a temporary set back. Hang in there.
