What's a good hour drive?

I'm staying on campus this weekend, since I promised myself I'd get some efficient work done on my papers due at the end of next week. At the same time, I feel like I need to take a drive somewhere. I hate being tied to campus on weekends and would like a place about an hour or so away. I like seeing new sights and traveling as you may be able to tell.

I'm running into some trouble here. I don't want to go to Richmond again, been there done that about 15x since start of the school year. North is the wrong direction. I thought about heading west to the "Wilderness" *insert dramatic sound effect* .........

.....that land wayyyy out there called West Virginia (closest state line) and stopping by Staunton to see "The International" but apparently they're just as small as us and don't have any theatres.

Any ideas? Zip code is 22903. Middle-of-nowhere, VA.

Why not D.C.? it's longer than an hour, but you sure as hell won't be bored there.

Hey you better watch out - if you drive to much you will be getting taxed in the future. According to some of the OBAMA administration your going to get taxed on your mileage traveled and will have GPS installed in your car, so that they can track you...BIG BROTHER is coming....

If you just want to drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Sky Line Drive are awesome! I used to drive from Virginia Beach to go drive those roads and hike that area.

Maybe cuz that's "home"? It's 2,5 hours, 200km (120mi), and an average of 3,5 cops.

Here's what I've done in the past:

Turn off the GPS, and head in a general direction, maybe SE towards the beach for you, and just drive, when you get tired, turn the gps back on and head home. I wound up in Maine (starting on LI) back in '04 using this method. Just drive, don't worry about where you are or what road or anything, just go. Trust me, it's fun and you never know where you'll wind up. (and take back roads if you can)

This spring you can always check out Lake Gaston, its close to 2 hours, but is a nice get-a-way, especially on a weekend. You could get a group up and camp out or rent a house for the weekend.

The V1 was received on Thursday at my home address, and I told my parents I'm in no rush to use it.

I don't use sat nav to begin with (it's called reading a MAP). The weather is turning out slightly warmer so I might drive down to the park (20min away) and ride the latter half of the afternoon.

Maybe I'll drive tomorrow to WV just to see the snow they get on the windward side of the mountains. I would go skiing at Snowshoe, but it costs $73 a day for a lift ticket. $73!!!! That's almost twice as much as it should cost!
