Saudi woman gets 1 year in prison for adultery after gang-rape

Saudi woman gets 1 year in prison for adultery after gang-rape
February 11, 2009 • 10:16 am
By Diana Fasanella

A Saudi woman was sentenced to receive 100 lashes and one year in prison after she was gang raped, a District Court judge there has ruled.

The 23-year-old woman confessed to having forced intercourse with her attackers after she accepted a ride from one of the men.

The man took her to a house east of the city of Jeddah where she was repeatedly raped by him and four of his friends throughout the night, according to the Saudi Gazette.

The judge ruled that she had committed adultery, despite that she was not even married, and handed down the floggings and prison sentence.

The incident was uncovered after the young woman became pregnant from the ordeal and tried to obtain an abortion at the King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces.

She won’t be flogged until after she gives birth.

How kind of them.

It is the most rapidly growing "religion" in the world. They routinely treat women as property, yet we don't hear NOW or other feminists protesting Islam.

You MUST rent the movie

"BANDIT QUEEN"

It's a true story of a female rebel in the 1980's. UNBELIEVABLE.

You're joking, right? First of all, the "Islam" practiced by fundamentalists in Saudi is about as Christian as the "religion" claimed by the extremists in Ireland and Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Secondly, the first match of a Google search on the NOW site matches a similar case to the one mentioned by the OP and says the King pardoned her because of the bad publicity:

http://www.now.org/news/note/010408.html

If you search for women's rights and fundamentalist Islam you will find a lot of matches for feminist sites.

I agree with the two posts above. Some people who follow it can’t judge “Religion” wrong! Arabs are only 18% of all Muslims in the world. Saudis may be the worst examples among them.

Don't you know that the Saudis are our friends. Iran is the source of all evil in the Muslim world (even though nothing like this would ever happen in Iran).

Saudis are the worst muslims and are a bad example. I see too much generalization going on.
