Poor Mr. Selden, recognized as the inventor of the first gasoline propelled car at his death in 1922, is probably turning in his grave over today's conflicting accounts as to who first invented (as opposed to first built) the automobile.

This statement by Obama was terrible. By many accounts, Leonardo Da Vinci made some of the first plans for an airplane, but do we say he invented the airplane. The Wright brothers had the first working airplane. Likewise, Karl Benz had the first working automobile, thus in my book, he is the inventor. Obama just realizes that most Americans are so ignorant they believe Henry Ford invented the automobile.
