During the test the M5 had a manual, CTSV had an automatic.

I was surprised watching the show that the BMW didn't toast the CTS on the track.

It was a pretty good review - I think the price and lower tq is what did the M5 in.

Well...that's the truth. That is typically how it works. One car dominates, like the M5 did, then someone makes a newer model to top it. I would bet the new M5 will top the CTS-V and the cycle will continue. The current M5 is at the end of it's run.

Plus, Roebling Raceway is sort of a slower, tight course where the huge displacement and torque advantage of the V shines.

Granted. But I wouldn't be surprised if the next addition still doesn't top the CTS-V. It will simply raise the BMW price tag even farther out of comparison to the CTS-V. (considering 62K buys the CTS-V). BMW simply is not fond of torque for whatever reason. That was my biggest complaint with my M3.

///M cars are currently overpriced in my opinion. I remember when you could get a E36 for mid-40's. I know that was 10 years ago but come on. The price has damn near doubled. I have been seriously thinking about my next whip being a ///M6. I'm not sure I'll go that route for 2 reasons......price and the 6 body style will change in 2 years....that means the ///M will follow the year after. So my guess is, there is a CTS-V killer on the horizon......Phil

Kudos for GM. I'm really pulling for them. The new CTS is a great sedan; the Vette is still the best value in sports cars; the new Silverado is kick-ass; and the Volt stands to be a game-changer. Oh, the G8 XP has M5-like performance at half the price.

If they can make it through this recession (and I hope they do), GM will do just fine. They are finally building great cars, and as Americans, we should all pull for them.
