Browser question

Can I create a command that will start a browser (either IE or Firefox) and force it to go to a certain site other than the home site.

I know I can start-up either browser via a command line - but do not know how to tell it to startup with a certain site. Is this possible (it must be).

any help is appreciated.

Not to Jack your thread, JC, but what does Firefox "do" vs IE? I've downloaded and installed and played around w/FF as a browser...I don't get what it does over IE? The spyware/hack bs is a non-issue.

JC - the best way to automate anything in IE is to use Visual Basic. other than that, check out the other 2 links for macro add ins.

It really doesn't do anything that IE cannot do - it actually has fewer plugins. To me - it does seem to be a LITTLE bit faster. I do believe the spyware is an issue - while using FF as my primary browser, I had NO spyware on my systems.

Are you asking about changing your Home site so that like X5World will pop up everytime you open your browser? Then just go to Tools, Internet Option, type in the URL for your new Home site, OK, and you are done.

Or are you asking to have a shortcut on your desktop to go to certain sites?

JC: Thanks...no techie here, but I couldn't see much diff and as I was "less used" to FF vs IE, I found it slightly less friendly.

As for Spyware and the ilk, my Norton on this new 'puter/WindowsXP along with Microsoft's Beta1 AntiSpyware download, seems to keep me clean, thus far.

hmmm, i thought he wanted to script something.... i gues dumping a shortcut to his desktop will work too...

I was actually trying to set up something in the scheduler - to go to a specific site. It was incredibly easy (note to self: always try the easy way FIRST).

Simply: iexplore.exe www.blahblahblah.com (<- another note - this is NOT a real site - thanks!)

You see - I'm lazy - and I have to check on a few sites every friggin morning for a while. Our webserver (at work) has been a little on the unstable side recently - so I'll pull them up every morning to make sure the friggin things are up and running. Now - in the morning when I come into my study, if I find 'Request Failed', I know I'm in trouble.
