Huge ressource action in my department

I work for a big computer technology and IT consulting corporation. End of last week about a third of the work force in my department was told that they were laid off. In my many years in this company I have seen some few other big lay off period but rarely of that amplitude in the same department. I probably was born under a lucky star as once again I am not part of this huge lay off. It is very weird though to see so many people around you disappearing.

A, I am really glad to hear you were spared. Seems like everyone I know is getting told their job is gone. My company just announced a corporate wide pay cut as a step toward keeping more jobs but it is only a matter of time before more layoffs are announced. These are crazy times.

Hard times are ahead. Those that have been living "from paycheck to paycheck" may find themselves in trouble when the paycheck vanishes, or at least drops to be smaller.
