Another LCD TV Wonderment...

So how does Sharp get away with charging those prices for their Aquos LCD line of TVs? I've read the "marketing/techno" stuff on their site, have looked a couple in the stores, though not serious side by side viewing, etc. Good looking pic, but is that stuff Really "better" than the Sony/pick a brand LCD or any better than the LCoS stuff coming?

Not looking for a term paper response...jes'some opins. They really have some remarkably high prices, espc. for the screen size. Just wondering.

PS/Edit: Sharp's is an "LC" tv...marketing bs, I think.

I have an Aquos and they do make good LCD. Their LCD's are rated good and pic and features are good which is the reason I like it.

Well MD, true flat panel displays (i.e. LCD flat panels) are still mucho bucks in big sizes. Unfortunately they also don't have the best picture -- although Sharp just displayed a LCD flat panel at a electronics show in Japan that has a contrast ratio of 12,000 to 1. The real problem with flat panels is the contrast ratio. Like with anything else, we'll see this improve with time.

FYI, the SXRD (Sonys newest technology) is getting RAVE reviews all over the press. Go find a store that has one and check 'em out!

Thanks, maties...ah, I was having a SeniorfookinMoment...Now, I get it: the Aquos is a True Flat Panel; the 70" Sony we saw and the new SXRD is a Projection TV, Not flat panel. Dunno why it took so long for the light bulb to come on.

Otoh, the new SXRD has a List of 11 freaking BigOnes vs. the 4,500 for the XRBWega one...I would be hard pressed to rationalize a 10G TV, LMAO!

Thanks for clearing that up.

When I decided to buy 45" LCD early this year, my choices were Sharp, Samsung and Sony. Samsung's low reliability rate moved me away from them. Sony's price, features and looks trade-off was not that great. All the reviews I read gave Aquos the top marks. Suggest subscribing to HDTV if you don't already have.
