Knew this day would come...it was only a matter of time. I'd love to hear thoughts on why this is a bad idea.

OK.

- Raises the cost of food
- Inefficient fuel
- Less functional than standard gasoline

Quote:
David Pimentel of Cornell and Tad Patzek of UC, Berkeley, calculate that producing a gallon of corn ethanol consumes 29% more fossil fuel energy than the ethanol saves. Adding to this waste, one has to burn 1.5 gallons of ethanol to go as far as a gallon of gasoline would go.

I was once a fan of ethanol. I agree with Wag, it is an inefficient fuel. I try to avoid ethanol blended gas altogether. The reason why the Ag Secretary wants to see an increase in ethanol is because he has corn lobbyists knocking down his door.

If this is about clean energy and fuel efficiency, shouldn't this be coming from the EPA, not the Ag department?

What a fookin surprise...
The Ag Sec is from Iowa, he doesn't differentiate between corn sourced
ethanol or cellulose, and on and on. Pandering to the BigAgComplex, imo.

And, the "geniuses" at EPA are looking at it hard, too.
Short sighted, expensive, ineffecient, costly, stupid...what else can
I say. Gov't @ "work", as usual.

Yes...this is the obvious. Not debating it, was just curious to read the opinion of OP as he says it's "a bad idea" and doesn't expound.

Guess what i meant to type, was "i'd like to read your thoughts on why it's a bad idea."

Yeah, great. A new, faster way to ruin one's fuel pump on a N54 motor. Let's burn up more food while we're at it.

Blue,
Hopeless, imo...the EPA, as most of the other unelected, self-serving,
narrow sighted bureaucracies always hold "comment/info gathering" periods.
But, a really good letter or, even a hundred, will have slim to no effect on their
decision, imo. And, Slim is on the bus...

Hey, let's grow more corn, (a multi-use food source, albeit an expensive
food source in terms of energy used, etc.), grind it up, distill ethanol,
and add more of that crap to our gasoline. Geniuses at work.
