I don't believe for a moment that Obama said OK guys
let's get this big jet and fly over NY and take some pictures.

And while I don't believe everything in the news heres what's being reported.

"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," said Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption."

Two officials told CNN the White House Military Office was trying to update its file photos of Air Force One. The officials said the president was angry when he learned Monday afternoon about the flight, which sparked fear in the New York-New Jersey area.

"The president was furious about it," one of the officials said. The incident outraged many New Yorkers, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In fact I heard that a high level meeting was held about the incident
and Mr. Obama chewed out a few people. What's going to happen next
I have no Idea but blaming Obama seems like a stretch to me.

You honestly believe the President didn't know? Do you know what the "White House Military Office" is? Here ya go:

Quote:
THE WHITE HOUSE MILITARY OFFICE

The White House Military Office (WHMO) provides military support for White House functions, including food service, Presidential transportation, medical support and emergency medical services, and hospitality services. The office, led by WHMO Director Louis Caldera, oversees policy related to WHMO functions and Department of Defense assets and ensures that White House requirements are met with the highest standards of quality. The WHMO Director oversees all military operations aboard Air Force One on Presidential missions worldwide. The Deputy Director of the White House Military Office focuses primarily on the day-to-day support of the WHMO.

The WHMO's operational units are the most visible part of the WHMO's support to the President. The WHMO units include the White House Communications Agency, Presidential Airlift Group, White House Medical Unit, Camp David, Marine Helicopter Squadron One, Presidential Food Service, and the White House Transportation Agency. To assure proper coordination and integration, the WHMO also includes support elements such as operations; policy, plans, and requirements; information and technology management; financial management and comptroller; WHMO counsel; and security. Together, WHMO entities provide essential service to the President and help maintain the continuity of the Presidency.
Sorry but I can't be that naive I'm still tripping over the OP saying it was 'DoD'

Louis Caldera, who is he?

I honestly believe I wasn't there and neither was anyone else around here.
So in all fairness none of us have any accurate information of
the type that would allow us to positively blame anyone for this issue.

But for those who want to waste their time trying to figure
it out all I can say is have at it. It's all good........

So your response is plausible deniability.

of all the people involved with this "Mission" none of them were able to stop it. (they couldn't have all agreed this was a good idea) what a waste of time and resources. and to agree with NyMench the down time of compaines and people in NY freaking out; heart attack? ouch. early labor? yikes.

white house military office convo:

"our part of the stimulus came through, so looks like we gotta fuel up the spare jet and fly it over NY and have it escorted by a fighter jet for no reason"

"good to hear, do we have to pay taxes next year?"

this is transparency?
