WTF! No factory tours!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I just got a voicemail from BMW stating that they are cancelling all public factory tours for the remainder of this year. They say it is due to new models comnig out and confidentiality. WTF! They left a number for Greg somebody or other to call if I have any questions. If you want to call Greg (I am), his number is 864-989-6237. The museum portion is still open Mon.-Fri.

Well... that just sucks royally!

I have not gotten the call yet. I have reservations for our group for Monday, the 24th.

What "rumourville" is this, bozo? I mean, BMW is not supposed to release the new X5 for another year. Is it not too early to re-tool the factory? And, no reliable spy shots or anything of the kind (that I know of) of the new X? Are we possibly jumping the gun here?

Juan

Absolutely. This was MAINLY talk in the world of BMW nutcases on e90post. For all I know, it probably started there. But it seems apparent that there ARE things in there they dont want to jeapordize any leakage of information on...Im just the type that chooses to make s(*# up....LOL....

However, before any official release, isnt there talk of a "appearance" of the new X at some car show in January? Has anyone heard such a thing?!

The e92 is the the new 4-Series (3-Seriers Coupe). It has nothing to do with production here. Where exactly did you hear this info ?

I'm with Juan on this; it seems highly unlikely they'd retool for this now. They still have a whole model year of X5s to finish up producing before the next gen.

BMW To Make Way for Single-Line Production at Spartanburg County Plant
BMW Readies Spartanburg, S.C., Plant for New X5
The plant shutdown was anounced last year. Originally they said 2 months but seems like it will be one month now. Currently they have 2 assembly lines, one each for Z4 and X5. They are changing to one assembly line capable of handling different models as the new BMW V5 and BMW X6 will be built in Spartanburg.
I read somewhere couple of months ago that BMW is planning to show the new X5 at the Detroit auto show in January. these things keep changing till last minute.

Thanks for sharing the link. Looks fairly reliable to me. Looks like they aren't
just retooling, they're basically completely changing the fundamental production process. Seems kind of impressive that they're going to do this much in a month.

January isn't far off ;Detroit Auto Show would seem like a logical as far as time and event go.
