Speed test: iPhone 3GS vs. Palm Pre
Seems like Palm Pre takes forever to boot up from cold start vs. iPhones. However, Palm Pre beats the iPhone 3GS in both web browsing and sending email in their real world testing... Videos - Free video downloads and streaming video - CNET TV P.S. Love that they were joking they were "special edition CNET Asia..."

Wow, that's a really slow boot up for the Pre

Yup, definitely slow, but about the same as my HTC Touch Pro and faster than most of the newer Crackberries. With any new phone sporting a new OS, an upgrade pack will follow that should help things along, but Pre will never beat an iPhone 3GS on a cold boot.
Boot time is only significant if the Pre is crash prone. There have been crashes caused by a known issue with defective batteries which Sprint is replacing, but crash issues don't seem out of control for a 2 week old phone. |

But you only do that when you change your battery which I guess you don't normally do on an iPhone. Please don't mistaken booting up from a cold start as something you do everyday. You can turn on the Pre instantly like you do with any other older Palm phone or iPhone. I agree, the slow boot up seemed longer than my friends' Pre. I did it once when I swapped his battery.
My Centro boots up from cold start faster than the old iPhone 3G though... However, it is sad that the Sprint Palm Pre internet browsing and email sending was quicker because Sprint has a better 3G network than AT&T. I am sure the iPhone 3GS is as fast as the Palm Pre (sounds like the Palm Pre is quicker than the old iPhone 3G). But AT&T's network hampered the iPhone 3G which went to EDGE and had a relative slow 3G response on the iPhone 3GS. Time will tell when AT&T releases HSPDA throughout the country...Then I'm sure iPhone 3GS will be faster.
