Trade In Experience

Hey everyone.

Just a quick temperature poll, if you will.

Trying to switch out a RR SC 08 low miles and showroom condition, and the first dealer I went to went WAY below reasonable in his offer for trade in value. I am not expecting the world, but need a FAIR price.

Another thing that I have noticed lately, at least in the west Tampa Bay area, is that the Porsche dealership has only 10 new cars in Inventory across Cayman,911, Cayenne versions total. The BMW side of the dealership only has a smattering of 535s/528s, a few 3 series, 1-2 X5s, no X6, 3 7s, and 1-2 ones, 1 m6, no m3/m5, 2 z4, and that's it.

I cannot accept the offer, so I am going elsewhere unless they can give me a fair trade in allowance.

Anybody else notice any similar expereiences lately? Any issues will little to no inventory elsewhere?

It's been that way for a bit of time. Remember the RR has horrific resale value so the trade in value may not be that unreasonable

Drex;

I have little or nor experience with trade in values. I have always sold my cars
privately. So my question would be what are the Rags in your area showing for private sales?
Could that comparison with the dealers offer give you a better barometer regarding the true value
of the RR in your area?

Private vehicles (if they sell) are selling 15K more but takes time. Not interested in selling in 6 months.

BBSD-

I don't know about that. There is conflicting information about that. Based on how much they are selling for (like condition, even more miles than what I have) private and dealer, the dealer will be making $10K on the car, some at my expense...

Interesting how the board has changed; post a car question/observation/comment thread and it seems Jessica Simpson being fat or some dumb dead quarterback is more interesting! LOL!

I agree that it "COULD" take more time. But what's the harm
in going thru the process? The market may be different where you are
and true the economy is different these days but you can never tell who
may have the coins and the desire to buy your ride.

Of all the cars I have ever sold none of them ever took 6
months to sell. More like 6 weeks. Especially if the ride
is in great shape like yours.

At any rate I wish you well........

DrDrex, as to the "lot inventory", purely anecdotal on a local level, but the Asheville BMW joint has several ~1 yr old unsold new cars, lots of lease/trade take ins sitting, and Xs up the wazoo. However, the local PCar dlr moved to a "better location" and new building, and has pared back their PCar inventory, both new & used, considerably; they are also an Audi, VW and Buick dlr, too. The sale nut there said they expect to sell less than a third of the PCar units this year, than in previous years and they aren't exactly a volume dlr.

Trade in: no xpert, but just from a wet finger in the wind, as you have discovered, the dlr will hammer you on trade in, currently. The car biz, and its inventory, has
changed dramatically in the past half year.
Good luck on your effort; very nice BMW sled, by the bye. A bro-in-law has a similar model, a couple yrs older: very good ride, if one is skilled and not faint-hearted.
