Time to sell the X5

Well its time for me to sell the X5 it’s been such a good vehicle. Iv got 127K on it with only small issues. I’m actually in the shop now getting the rear brakes done.

I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on trade in vs. privet sale.

I have a 01 X5 4.4 with plenty of options premium, Navigation, Cold weather, rear heated seats, climate, air bags, etc. would it be unreasonable to expect $10K for it?

I won’t be leaving the BMW family just going back to a 3 series. The cost of driving the X5 is killing me. I like to plant my foot in that gas and surprise people of the line so it’s a very thirsty car.

I know this is an X5 forum still but if anyone has any comments on the 06 330 engine vs. the 07+ 328 engines please let me know your thoughts.

I would start with Kelly Blue Book and check on your year, trim, and mileage to get expected price.
Trade-in would rate high for convenience, but the dealer will low-ball you in a big way. You won't get anywhere near KBB. So you should always attempt a private sale first.

I've got an '01 3.0 with 90K miles and if I were to sell private party I would ask for $12K. I think on a trade I might get $10K. I don't think you are far off asking $10K on private party--once you hit 100K miles there seems to be a lack of interest from most and it's going to be cash sale of course.

Maybe if you getting nailed on the other car you are buying,,

your lucky if you get 8500..

I have the same car with 72k miles, and i'll be lucky to get $10,000.

I was offered $12K for my trade and $1K over invoice on an '08 E70 4.8 I was going to order last Aug when BMW had the .9% financing--but I decided to hold off. There's no way it's going to drop off that much a year later and maybe 10K miles extra on it now at 90K.

Whenever I trade in a vehicle, I have always gotten KBB value. When I traded my 2004 330xi to get my X5, I got $1,000 over excellent with $1,000 over invoice on X5. They originally offered just the KBB value, but then I said I was going to check with other dealers (more than 25 within 50 mile radius).

I think you will very easily be able to get the KBB value not to mention $10,000.

i believe those #'s are off..
