The Ultimate Drive

So the Drive for the Cure was in town this weekend. A few of us took off early from work on Friday and met up at the dealer. They had a pretty good selection of vehicles to choose from. I drove a 330Ci, 530i, 645Ci 'vert, Z4 3.0, and the 745 land yacht. The Z was a beast of a little car. Same hp as the X, but with half the weight translates into a slight headache in the twisties.

The course was 16 miles times 5 cars, (carry the 1), so that's 80 bucks on my part for the cure. Heck of a fun way to raise money for the Komen foundation.

Check out the schedule to see when they are in your area. Go out and drive em like you stole em (if you don't mind a car with a pink ribbon on it ) and help raise some money for a really good cause.

Sounds like you had a great time. I just checked and I can't register for an event in my area until mid-August. I signed up for the notification when it's in this area

I went on the Ultimate Drive last year with my dad... He had to drive because at the time I didn't have my license... We drove an X3, 330Ci and 325xiT. We had fun. Did you sign the signature car?

Actually I did sign it. I'm about halfway up the right side fender. First time I've been "immortalized" so to speak.

Some people here did the same thing. The next stop was Oklahoma City. Only about 2 hrs away, but they were going topless on a ~45 degree day. I used to be hardcore like that, but I'm getting soft now. Me likes my heater.

I did it last summer. In the rain. The 2 Z4 manuals were both wrecked the week prior, and the 530 SMG was in the shop for repairs. Grrrr.

But I had a blast in the 330 performance package, 645 cab, 540 6sp, 740 and X3. Got to drive the 540 and 645 twice 'cause no one showed up in the rain. Then I was asked to be a driver, to take the 645 or the 330 to Poughkeepsie, get a free meal, and a bus ride back. I had plans and couldn't do it. But the rain was awful, so I didn't miss much.

I'll be there again this year! I think I even had a write up somewhere at BF, but I don't bother with it anymore, so...

That is a great event. The last time I did it I raised $110 while having a blast, including testing the highway speeds of a 760Li. (Luckily the route that year had a section where you got on the freeway for good distance.) Another year when the drive was on a Saturday, I helped them drive a car to their next location. They has a Komen bus to take us back to our dealer. That was a hoot. I drove a 330Cic, top down, about 90 miles. All for a good cause.

That must have been fun... How did you get picked to do that?

I was picked based on my outstanding driving abilities and my rugged good looks. That and I was there and they asked me if I could. It was a lot of fun. We were supposed to follow a set route and try to caravan but as soon as each car left the dealership, it was blast off. We were all on our own until near the end when sevaral of us linked back up. The sight of 4 or 5 silver BMW's with pink Komen ribbons and checkered flags plastered on them, snaking through traffic was something to see.

I checked the schedule and I can't register until 6/27/05... Hell, I probably won't even end up going this year, especially if it's in June... Which sux..
But yeah.... I love seeing several BMWs in a row on the highway... Matching ones make the coolness factor go up a million times.

Thanks. I just registered for May 3rd. I drew a 645ci and an X54.4. I have yet to drive the new 4.4 Valvetronic engine in the X, so I am curious.
