Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

BBC NEWS | Europe | Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Wow! I didn't think he'd actually achieved anything yet!

What has he really achieved? Zip.

I guess "Hope As A Strategy" is enough to win this award. Seems ridiculous to me, makes a mockery of it and I don't believe it will impress any of the global leaders he must influence, whether they like us, are in agreement with our policies or not.

In fact, this could work against him and us in their eyes - many believe the empty words and "the time has come" speeches x12 are hot air. Winning the award at this stage of his accomplishments (?) is mind-boggling. Will any of the countries that we are trying to influence or are at odds with us resent him personally now? Getting a peace prize for not doing anything. That's not going to sit well with some and make others laugh at him. He should tell the world he has not earned it yet, refuse to accept the award and tell them that he hopes to earn it over time.

Now that would be presidential.

Not defending the person getting the prize......
Here are the words of those giving the prize,

Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office,
Nobel committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support
what he is trying to achieve".

Heres another perspective, or perhaps said in another way.

But of course winning the prize for words is not new.

Whoa whoa whoa...be careful using the word BUT as a postfix to "not defending the person"...it may somehow confuse some on this forum into believing that you are actually defending the guy

I like that idea; but it would never happen. He would earn so much respect.

Way to go, something that GWB was never in the running for.

Ryan will be pleased

Tough to be in the running for a Peace prize while defending the security of the United States while taking the fight to the terrorists in the middle east. So you're right he wasn't, and neither should have been Obama.

You should be thankful the he didn't win one.

Obam is now in a category with

Nelson Mandela
The Dali-lama
Mother Teresa
Martin Luther King Jr.
Albert Schweitzer

But then again they did give the award recently to Yasser Arafat...

Accomplishments so far

Jobs from the stimulus?
Health care refore?
Afghanistan?

Wait...I have one. 1.4 Trillion National Debt from out of control spending and more on the way.
