Changes in cancer screening recommendations

So earlier this week the US Preventative Services Task Force changed the recommendation for routine mammograms. This morning I heard The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology changed their recommendation for pap smears. In both cases the age for initial testing was raised. The frequency of periodic testing was decreased from yearly to once every two years for mammograms and three years for pap smears.

Someone please tell me this is in no way tied to reducing health care costs.

Never in a million years would I have thought they'd RAISE the age for initial testing and decrease the frequency in either of these cases. This is insane!

it is definitely influenced by the almighty dollar! yuck. how much money did the country spend buying old "clunkers" amogunst other loose spending sprees.

nows as good a time as any to be independently wealthy. i may give that a go and see how it works out for me.

anyhow, i'm willing to take a look at "them" for ya, no charge.

It's a crazy idea. Lots of opposition on this one. I will pay for them myself if I have to. Unfortunately, there are many who cannot afford it if their insurance won't cover it. But, again, there are all those who don't even have insurance now and haven't had testing in years.

In practice, we intend to ignore these new guidelines.

I think that The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology is providing unbiased research.
