Canon announces new 70-200

For all of you waiting to get the 70-200 2.8L IS, now might be the time, as Canon has announced the 70-200 2.8LIS II to replace the older version I. Keep an eye out for price drops on the series I version.

Cool! That's sort of what I've been waiting for. There was a rumor of a 70-200mm f/1.8L IS. That would make a big lens massive!

What do you think we'll see in terms of price drop on the older version?

It's really tough to say, camera people are crazy . Those lenses usually hold their value pretty well, it's going to be a game of "when is the good timing" with people trying to unload their v. I's so that they can upgrade to the v. II's., and throw in the variable of the stores dumping their v I stock in anticipation of getting in v II's. On top of all of that many might wait until the v. II's are tested by the review sites.

So in answer to your question, I don't know I'm going to keep an eye on B&H and Adorama, and see if there are any threads on DPReview about it. FredMiranda's buy/sell forum is a good place to watch as well.

Holy Crap. B*H is selling the vI for $1700. There's a $150 instant rebate on it right now. IIRC the price used to be lower, I don't remember that lens being $1850MSRP in the past. Wow.
