Have a spare furnace, know anyone in NJ or SI who could use it to rebuild?

Guys,

I have a perfectly good furnace sitting in my garage and I need the space. It was phased out in a renovation for a high efficiency unit.

With so many people needing to rebuild after the hurricane I wAs left wondering how to get it to somebody hit by Sandy who could use it.

I called the SA but I doubt they will take it. If I can't find a worthy recipient it will go to the recycling. Which seems a waste.

Anyone got a good idea what to do?

A 112 replies to a rant about cancer charities......

But no one knows how to get an appliance to a needy person in NJ? The Salvation Army of course never called back. I guess the ranger is right, these supposed "charities" are all about cash, don't try and give them any thing they can't skim a quarter off the top for their own pockets.....

Come on guys, a lot of you are in NJ! What is being done for people with only moderate damage?

Unit is going outside under a tarp today but looks like ultimately it will go into the recycling. Sad but so be it.

Give some specs on the furnace. I'm from upstate NY and used to live in mid-town nyc for about three years. I'll look into the logistics of it being able to be placed to good use for someone that was hit and could use the help. It may be a unique situation logistically...

It is a Carrier, 115,000 btu. Can't remember the CFM just now. It is std 80 pct efficiency, 20x24 filter on side intake and up flow. Natural gas fired.

Call the American Red Cross, they will be able to tell you who to call to donate it. The Rockaways, especially Bell Harbor need considerable help still. I have many friends in that area that are now homeless, and the those who aren't, stll don't have power/heat.
