I miss my X so bad I'm considering an addition to the family

After the loss of my 2001 X5 (fell asleep on the way to the airport at 4:30am and slammed into a cement barrier at 75mph). I made it to the airport with the help of a friend and a tow truck.

So I decided to get a Mercedes C-Class to replace the X because I'm driving more for work and to save a few bucks. Problem is I miss the Sport and Utility of the X Factor.

Soooooooooooooo I'm going this afternoon to test drive a 2003 X5 4.6 with 38,000 miles. My sell to the wife was I'm putting so many miles on the C-Class I can split the miles between two cars and have the utility of the X.

She said yes today but I'm still not sure I should in these tough times. Want and need is still on my mind and might kill the deal.

I have an 03 4.6is and love it! Maybe get the 4.6is and if times are getting too tight sell the C class? ()

The only bad thing about the 4.6is is the gas mileage, but it makes up for that with the fun factor!

Isn't the maintenance on a high-performance model like the 4,6is or 4,8is kinda........high? In lean economic times, not sure if that's the route to go.

IMO the 4.6iS may not be the most cost effective...however, to me, it's a classic. Subtle differences in comparison to 4.8iS. There were less than 3k produced, a rare find and with low miles. If it's out of warranty, i'd look into BMW warranty or 3rd party.

If you can swing the Merc' as your DD and the X as the family/stuff hauler...i say go for it.

Admittedly, i may be biased as i prefer my sports cars unrefined...the 4.6iS is unrefined

Good find. But one thing that makes me suspicious is such suspiciously low mileage on an '03....You're talking about a 6+ year old vehicle with 38,000 miles on it. Can you say "odometer tampering"?

I bet if you took a poll of all the 2003 4.6es on this site the average mileage would be 2-3 times that (i.e. over 80,000). BUYER BEWARE.

My commuter car is an E39M5.

Life is too short to drive slow cars.
