Rock Slide Closes Tail of the Dragon...

Locally known as the road through Deal's Gap. With last year's heavy rainfall,
several big winter snows and the usual gravity at work, slides have happened
all over western NC. The biggest/most troublesome was the huge slide onto
Interstate 40, which has been closed since October.

I saw this vid yesterday and it finally turned up in the local Asheville rag;
Route 129, where this slide occurred is actually the road leading into the
Deal's Gap/"Dragon" section, from the TN side.

Hope this guy doesn't drive or worse, ride an m'cycle through there often: he is clueless.
Keep it under a buck fifty and, between the fences...

The I-40 slide; looks like a mole hill, but huge area covered and, very
very steep. I-40 may open around late April, early May...the time consumer is blasting
and reinforcing the vertical wall left by the "face" of the mtn coming down in the slide.

"Good Lord"!

I have had our X5 up there a few times. Not quite as fun as my buddies e46 M3 with H&R's, but still fun.

Last time I drove the whole tail, there was a Harley rider scraping and sparking the pegs in every turn. He washed so far into the other lane a few times I thought I was going to see him get cleaned out.

I saw the same video on The Weather Channel yesterday........how fast must one be going, or just plain inattentive........to miss a BIG obstacle like that.

I haven't driven down that area of the Appalachians; it does look like a fun challenge but unfortunately, it is a bit far.

Deal's Gap Ride...
Open from the NC side. The TN side merchants are pizzed.

Highly overrated ride, imo, but if any of you readers are headed
that way this summer, let me know: I am like the Chamber of Commerce
with knowledge on every good two lane blacktop in western NC, etc.
And, we could hook up.

Now, if they can just get I-40 open...
