Aarons (DinanX5) stolen key issue got me thinking about a customer we had come in the shop about 3 months ago. One of the other techs in the shop had a 5 series come in for disabling of one of the keys(her husbands) and BMW assist problems. The owner (a lady) was in the middle of what seemed to be an ugly divorce...but then again are they ever pretty? Long story short, she wanted us to check for any tracking devices since her husband seemed to know where she was at all times. The BMW assist problem was a bad TCU. When replacing the TCU, we found the tracking device sitting right next to it. We called to inform her about the find and she came right over to deliver it to her attorney. What happened after that I can only imagine

Wow... fascinating. I'm willing to bet that little bugging device cost the guy the house, too...

I assume everyone is aware that BMW and M-B use the same outsourced service for the BMW Assist (branded as TeleAid by M-B). When I got my first M-B with the service, it was explained to me that if the car is stolen, you report it to the service, and they will call police with the car location, but not give it you.

Reportedly, the reason is that once upon a time a woman called in her stolen car, and was given the location. In reality, she was tracking her cheating husband. Got photos of him, or something. Divorce, lawsuits, etc, followed. New policy on info distribution shortly after that.
