Sony TX Notebook vs. Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop
The Dell is a decent powerhouse, but lately Dell, seems like it just makes their laptops bigger and heavier. Chris F. wanted to see the two laptops side-by-side. Sorry, didn't turn on the Dell laptop (it has a beautiful 15.4" wide screen), etc.

I primarily use it for travel and for work. I was able to watch at least 4 hours of DVD and also browse at the airport's free wireless internet and still had battery power left this past week!!
 There is an "instant A/V mode" so you don't have to boot up Windows to watch a DVD or play a CD or view Photos with the built-in memory stick or SD slot. The instant A/V mode is SONY own's operating system and basically function as portable dvd player.  Also, this light notebook uses carbon fiber to keep the weight light! Damn marketting people!
Those specs are not useful. 60GB Hard Drive - what kind?! 2MB or 8MB cache? 4200, 5400 or 7200RPM? 1024MB RAM - what kind?! DDR333, DDR400, DDR2-400, DDR2-533...assuming So-Dimms... It seems like a pretty powerful machine for its size. Remember, when you have less chassis space, that limits your processor choice due to heat disspation, and also the RAM slots. This is one loaded laptop for its dimensions!

Let me see what I can find re: specs, but I didn't buy it for speed. It was more for ultra-portability.

Directly from CNET. Yes, the specs is that the laptop does NOT use the latest technology, but it sure is light and right now, I'm using it because it is easy to pick up and the battery lasts for a long time.
"Our prototype test unit included a number of modest components that didn't stand in the way of the VAIO VGN-TX670P's performance. The unit included an ultra-low-voltage, 1.2GHz Intel Pentium M 753 processor; 1GB of slow 266MHz memory; Intel's 915PM/GM/GMS chipset with an integrated graphics subsystem that borrows up to 128MB of RAM from main memory; and a 60GB hard drive spinning at a sluggish 4,200rpm. In CNET Labs' mobile benchmarks, our unit ran neck and neck with the older-generation VAIO T-series machines, as well as with the Fujitsu LifeBook P7010D and the Dell Latitude X1, each of which was outfitted with a 1.1GHz Pentium M processor.
