Disney World crowded after Xmas?

Okay, maybe I'm asking a dumb question but ...

We're going to Disney World in Orlando after Xmas and for New Year. Do you think it would be less, same or more crowded than in the summer? I'm assuming summer is peak time.

I'm hoping not but since its during xmas break and all - I guess its busy. I just want to know how busy compared to the really crowded summer times.

Anyone have any experience or just tell me what you think.

I've gone to DW a lot of times. It is aways crowded for holidays. I've found the week of College Spring break to be the least busy time that I have gone.

Thanks for the link. Looks like we picked the BUSIEST time of the year for DW! Didn't realize the parks get so crowded at this time that they stop admitting people.

Oh well ... my kids will love the Disney holiday decorations and I don't really care for the rides anyways. We'll get to the parks one hour early to make sure we don't get shut out like some.

I agree on busy then, at least during a 'normal' econ; we have best friends that go to DW 3-4 times per year, (yes, hard to know 'why'), and one of their trips last year was during that stretch between Xmas & the 1st. It was their first time there at that period and they said it was packed, fwiw, anecdotally.

The real reason why it is soo crowded is because of the college bowl games. Are you staying exclusively around Orlando or staying at the Disney Resort? If you stay at the resort, you do not have to deal with the traffic jams and just hop in the mag to all the parks. I will also be down in Central FL during the time visiting the 'rents.

We'll be staying at the Bahama Bay Resort & Spa which is supposed to be 10 minutes away from Disney. Bowl games ... never thought about that .. makes sense.

In 1990-92, I had a part-time job at Disney World. Yes, I was one of Mickey's doctors. The week between Christmas & New Year's Day was always the absolute busiest of the year.

FWIW, we went to Disneyland last year on Christmas Day as a present for our two young nieces. It was chaos. On the plus side, we got their first thing and got a spot to board our Rottweiler in Disney Kennels for the day.

FWIW, when we went some years ago, it was on dec 30 - jan 1, and yes it was crowded, but, we were there at the opening, and had no problem having tickets. The clerk told us that they close the gates when they reach the maximum allowed on the site, and it can be as early as 10am - noon.

People that live in the Disney hotels can go on rides 30 minutes before the public.
One tip I can tell you, learn how the "Fast Pass" work, and when you enter the site, go directly to the FP distributor for the ride you want, and get the FP for this ride. If you do that many times during the day, you will save hours of waiting in line for popular rides.

We were there on the new year eve, and there was a big parade at night and it was real nice.

Thank you to everyone who responded. Now that I know what to expect that helps a lot. We'll get there early before opening, get Fast Pass right away for the rides we want and just enjoy life!

Happy Holidays to everyone.
