TVs again

I've viewed the Sony SXRD 60" - awesome tv.

Now I see a Mitsubishi advertised - it's a DLP with 1920x1080 resolution. 73" set is only a little more than the SXRD around here. Thoughts or comments?

IMO, there is always going to be something just a little newer just around the corner. TV technology is moving very quickly, just like PCs moved some years ago. I love my SXRD, and while I am sure that there are alternatives coming (or just arrived) that will match it, keep in mind that most of the time, the source signal quality isn't as good as the TV resolution. While HD looks great, and DVD is pretty good, there are still lots of things I want to watch on regular cable, so you don't get the benefit all the time. Also, you aren't getting the 1920 x 1080 resolution on either the SXRD or the Mitsubishi until there are devices to feed that resolution. Get one and enjoy it, and don't worry that there will be something better in two months, because there definitely will be.

Just my $0.02.

Both are really good technologies, the only reason I have not bothered to check out DLPs is because I can see rainbows. If you can't see rainbows when watching the Mits (literally, you would see rainbows), definitely check it out.

Here is a website about the rainbow effect...there is a link within the article showing a video of what the rainbow effect would look like if you could see them. (Be happy you can't!)

Link to info on rainbows

As JCL said, the technologies are changing VERY VERY quickly.

Yeah - aware of that rainbow effect - but I cannot see it. I think it is enticing - especially at the price point. I expect to see them drop in price very quickly - but a 1080p 73" set for $5400 sounds pretty good. We'll see...
