Kindle vs Nook

My goddaughter wants a Kindle for her birthday. Although I read A LOT, I am clueless in regard to electronics. For me...I need a book. I need to feel it, hold it, dog ear the pages. Anyway, from what I understand the difference is where you can download the books from. Kindle = Amazon and Nook = Barnes and Noble.

Anything else that would influence my purchase? Her birthday is next week so I need to order soon.

Thanks guys. You KNOW I don't read owners manuals so it's so much easier to ask here than google and read.

Agree with LM on Kindle, L. There are two variations of the basic Kindle:

- Wi-Fi only ($139)

- adds 3G ($189)

The advantage to the 3G is you can purchase books and browse the web when Wi-Fi isn't available.

The larger format Kindle is better for school books and PDFs but I don't know how many textbooks are available at this point. Also, I prefer the small format Kindle because it is easier to hold for extended reading sessions.

Thanks. I ordered the basic Kindle. She's in 6th grade, the teachers won't allow them to use anything but the basic one in class.
