Last Lamborghini Murciélago rolls off

This LP670-4 Superveloce is the 4,099th – and last – Lamborghini Murciélago to be produced at the automaker's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory. Wearing "Arancio Atlas" paint, the final Murc will be shipped off to a Swiss customer, marking the end of the car's nine-year production run.

During an "end of celebration" ceremony at Lamborghini's factory, the automaker's president and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, had this to say:

"The Murciélago embodies the pure, unadulterated values of our brand. It is truly extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. This already makes it one of the legends of the sports car world. But the Lamborghini story continues. In 2011, we will take a huge step into the future with the successor to the Murciélago – with the most innovative technology and, once again, truly stunning design."

The Murciélago may have left quite a mark during its production run, but we're very eager to see what sort of supercar hotness Lamborghini has in store for next year. As we reported earlier, the Jota LP700-4 is nearing the end of its development process, and we could see an official debut as early as the Geneva Motor Show next March.

I wonder why they stopped at an odd number like 4099. I'm sure there's a 4100th buyer waiting and they could have run the production line for another day or two.
