I really want to like my Android phone....

For the record...BB user since forever. Had it even before they made them as phones...

iPhone - last 3 years.

I've had a HTC Incrediable for the last 3 weeks or so.
I've yet to join a droid forum but I have seen some Android fanboy posts in here so I'd give it a shot

How do you search email on the Android platform. In the google email, there is a search function. By just short of that, in the ~email~ portion where I have Activesync going, I for the love of gawd....can't seem to figure out a way to search emails.

Battery Life. I can anywhere from 1/3 day of use (3-5 hrs) before I need to recharge....Hell, I have gone almost 1.5 weeks on my older blackberrys . 2 Days at least in my BB tour...

Damm Software. Unless it is just me, but it's not as polished and refined as it could/should be. I have had to reboot my phone 5X in the course of 3 weeks in order to restore voice. Basically, all functions work EXCEPT the mic won't pick up anything I say when I am on a phone call. Hard Power the phone and viola, it's working.

The same goes for email...It will show the subject head but no messages. Power cycle the phone and it's working....

Thoughts, suggestions, ideas

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
No suggestions but please keep the information coming.

I was about to jump from my BB to Droid, but think I will wait.

Did you look at the BB 9700?

Why did you leave the I-Phone?

Okay, here goes from a bit of an Android fanboy.

To search your GMail, go into the GMail account you want to search, in your inbox, hit "menu" and select "search" and it will give you a GMail specific search box to fill. You can also see you GMail folders too. It's really a replication of your regular GMail experience on a PC or Mac.

In MS Exchange account you can do the a similar thing. Go to the inbox, press the search hard key on the front of the phone (upper right corner hard button?) and it will pop up a specific search box for that account. I just tried it on my MS Exchange push account. It will pull up matches as you type.

Your battery life is strangely bad. There might be some Incredible specific issues that can be solved but I don't have that handset. I found that with rooting (jailbreaking in Android parlance) and a custom ROM could do wonders for your battery life. Rooting will also allow for easy tethering. I just tethered my HTC Hero to my iPad for a quick Internet hit. (Screw the iPad 3G!)

The software issues you complain of is very unusual. I know a bunch of people with Android handsets and have not reported your issue. Do you have a bad handset, maybe? I would definitely search an Android forum. I use androidforums.com.

HTH!

Somethings you just need a 3rd angle...Thanks PNG
Here I was touching the softkeys, hitting *menu* to see more options, etc....and it never dawned on me to push the search hard key

for battery life, you can install juicedefender. it turns off all your radios periodically. your text and push email won't be "near real time" anymore. your email was pull by a set period anyways. otherwise when you are at your desk or car, just plug it in to charge... at the rate i run mine, i can drain it in under 2 hrs depending on what i'm doing. when i limit myself to regular user mode i can get about 45 hours out of it...

the battery drain comes from powering that huge screen and wifi and obviously this is a new phone to you so you've been playing with it alot.... lol

That's such a useful post in a thread about asking for Android help.

Just like when people as for help with windows and get the "buy a mac" reply.

But in all honesty the andriod phones use a linux based OS which is just about as customizable as a linux based computer. I happen to love my android phone.
