Nokia gambles on Windows based phones

Nokia will adopt Windows Phone as its principal smartphone operating system replacing its own Symbian software, which has been losing ground to Apple's iPhone and smartphones that run Google's Android.

Sounds like a move of desperation.

It just may well be Nokia's demise. Win 7 mobile does not have the adoption rates to move them forward. Desperation indeed. Competition is fierce. Sell Nokia NOW!!!!

I think that the fight is between Android and iOS. Win 7 will be an also-ran. Nokia is crazy to do this but like someone posted, perhaps MS is subsidizing the move.

MS is desperate as well to have a play in this space. Two near losers (MS in terms of previous failures in the space and Nokia for Symbian) working together don't frequently grow marketshare.

MS has a way of defining the world that is askew from broad realities so they can compete on their grounds. Nokia may have just entered the twilight zone - a sureal place where illogical decisions are made in the real world. Good luck with that.

An open letter on Nokia's Conversations site, penned jointly by Stephen Elop and Steve Ballmer, sets out the foregoing details along with the following statement of intent:

"There are other mobile ecosystems. We will disrupt them. There will be challenges. We will overcome them. Success requires speed. We will be swift. Together, we see the opportunity, and we have the will, the resources and the drive to succeed."

The world is waiting ...........

it's not that bad.. work just passed out the win7 based phone. Is it a good move for Nokia? - probably not. Is Win7 decent? yes.

Time will tell how the MS system works and how competitive it will be. I'm not convinced they will be sufficiently successful to satisfy users over 1-2 years.
