So I googled "Casey Anthony" and got 69 million hits. I don't recall it being on our local news, maybe it was. I watch a national broadcast and a local broadcast every night. But I don't watch CNN or Fox, who appear to have led the charge on this one.

My question is, why did it become such a media frenzy, and why do people have so much personally invested in the verdict? It is very sad for the child that died. But why did so many people appear to decide that the mom was guilty or not, before the verdict was in? What went wrong?

Sensational media stories are the norm here. It was a dramatized story because of the fact that the suspect/defendant is a pretty young woman, a child was involved, and the child was missing for a month and there was a massive search for her. The story about her disappearance was also dramatic in that she was supposedly abducted by Zanny the Nanny.

I must say that it's party the nature of American media and American society. I don't believe there was nearly the sensationalism and media frenzy over Robert Pickton.

Casey was out partying for 4 weeks getting tattoos and lying about her whereabouts and lying about her daughter's whereabouts until her parents smelled the death on the inside of her car and called 911.

The thought that a mother of a beautiful little toddler could be so nonchalant about her going missing is outrageous.

Her lawyer thinks she's a liar and a slut, so...

IDK.

Lots of bad in the world happening to other people in the world as well, unnecessary to pick and choose which to sensationalize. If anything comes of all this, I'd bet that Ms. Anthoy's lawyer's kids will have their own reality TV show on "E" in sixteen years or so, where other youth can idolize a new round of socialites that inherited money gained from a popular murder trial.

Feeling cynical today.

I was a bit shocked to hear that she as acquitted. The prosecution made some major mistakes (reminded me of OJ) and the defense made some decent points. I don't think it was about the defense being strong so much as the prosecution putting on an incomplete case.

One point the defense hammered on was the lack of a cause of death. The prosecution played into that and offered alternative theories when they should have dismissed that argument and focused on the fact that Caylee was dead and it didn't matter how except that it was at the hand of another (homicide) and that it was Casey who did it. That inconsistency and "shotgun" approach doesn't work for the prosecution. The defense often takes a "shotgun" approach but they also don't carry the burden of proof.

It is very sad for I believe Casey Anthony killed her daughter or at least had a major hand in doing it if she had suckered a guy into helping her.

She was obviously guilty but the prosecution had so many holes in their case that there was reasonable doubt all over the place. I blame them for failing to prove their case.

Innocent until proven guilty still exists in this country, which is a great thing.

I'm sure karma will catch up with her very soon.

In this instance, Americans feeding the stereotype of typical lazy fat TV watching Americans.

edit: PersonaNonGrata summed it up well.

I'd say it would catch up to her in jail, but she's probably safer there.
