Glad I'm in central NC now. I effectively only have summer tires on the X3 now so any snow in the Piedmont means the truck stays parked. My winter tires are 7 years old and two of them are too worn to be of use.

Yesterday morning I looked at the VDOT traffic cameras in western Virginia along the I-81 corridor, because I have to "see it to believe it". Shocked to see snow as far as Lexington VA and snow-covered roads + plows near Winchester.

I'm back up in "warm" ithaca right now. What a freaking experience..

Power went out last night around330pm and still is not back up and running. I had to rough it with the fireplace running hard, no cell service, ground telephone line out, internet out, basically everything out...

really crappy night, took a lot of nyquil and passed out, woke up freezing!! damn power out=no heat either.

Hope everyone is OK out there, it was seriously a war zone. I stood outside on my porch and could just listen to trees cracking and falling every minute or so. It felt like the apocalypse!

When I see the destruction/loss of power that comes from huge wind/rain storms and snow/ice storms, I wonder why more people in the 'burbs don't spend a few Gs on a hard wired generator?

Nearly everyone here in the Mtns has one, and it would be very uncomfortable not having one, as we lose power regularly.

No cell phone?! HolyfookinMoly...how does one get through the day/night?

Titz pics by the bye, Naz!

Hard wired generator is definitely an idea.. My grandfather has a commercial grade one hooked up via natural gas-- literally he can use everything in his house.. very impressive.

I will get on my father the "builder" to get his boys in to hook it up. You would think, living in the builders house, youd have all the toys

Naz, not pitching, but check out Generac. Our's is 10+ yrs old, old/lower tech, (the new ones are titz), and runs better than my Rolex. Only 12 kW, but runs 85% of our house, comes on ~20 seconds after a power out, and turns off seamlessly when power comes back on.

And, no one needs the top kW to run a 'whole house' since when was the last time anyone had 'everything on' in their house?!

They also make diesels, (a neighbor has one), that will run 24/7 for as long as one has diesel fuel to pour in, but it's overkill in 'burbs, imo.

If you have piped Nat Gas, it is a no brainer, imo, and even if you don't. a small tank of propane buried in the yard will run the sumbitch for as long as you might need. But be sure the install is careful, and the electrician knows what he/she is doing. Not for a 'first time install' by any electrician, imo.

I shall refrain from telling any of you what the weather is like in Northern California.

The Toyo Proxes on 20s handled well for being all seasons. Hopefully I can get a better taste when it snows more!

MD, will look into that, thank you for the advice. Seems that you always know a thing or two about the practical tools..

Some more pics of my backyard and cleaned up X snapped on my iPhone.

Power's out and 8 inches at the CFO's. So much for living 75 yards from the water moderating things. One of our trees lost a branch, but I think the real disappointment is that she doesn't get to make the doctors down the way look like assholes by clearing the road with the chainsaw instead of calling 911 for downed trees like they usually do. Meanwhile its 50 degrees where the sun sets at 3 in the afternoon.
