HDTV prices are falling this Spring/Summer
FYI, the HDTV market is heating up! If you haven't noticed, prices are dropping and will continue to drop.
Sony is coming out with a new Rear Projection LCD line. The 42" model will run under $2000! Plasmas are coming down in price too -- you'll see 42" EDTV Plasmas for around $2000 too. The new big thing on Sonys Rear LCD projection is going to be an adjustable 'iris' that will adjust the light output depending upon the darkness of the scene. This will give improved contrast ratios and better blacks. Greg, I know you are reading this, you got a heck of a deal on your TV so no worries.... I guess I'll sit back and wait a little longer. The market is only getting more interesting. |

I'm waiting for the directview LCD panels to come down in price. Also, I can't remember the technology name, but I guess there's going to be something leapfrogging LCoS with better blacks (almost CRT like), more color accuracy and higher resolutions in the next year or so.

Waiting and watching myself
As with any technology, it always drops in price. Computers, TVS, etc. But when new tech is around the corner, the prices of the current technology drops fairly quickly. I'm hoping the 70" Hitachi drops a bit more, then I might bite (currently around $5,800). It was 7k not too long ago.

Glad to see the prices on most non-leading edge, dropping like a rock. The prob for me is trying to keep up w/the buzz words and "different" methods. Hellsbells, our 3 1/2 yr old Toshiba 57"widescreen ol'regular projection box still works well for my non-tech/old eyeballs. But, for a non-tech, don't care about leading edge, (and on a fooking budget), consumer, the new stuff and nomenclature is mind boggling. BR,md

What drives me nuts is that you can't even get a 4:3 set anymore....yet 99% of the channels are STILL broadcasting in 4:3 format!!!! Sheez, when the hell are we going to convert over?!

Yup! We bought This LCD Rear Projection Sony Wega a couple of weeks ago for less than $2,300... Prices ARE indeed coming down.
Great TV, by the way. Love the thing. Juan

I agree with you, labatt. For the money, you cannot beat a rear-projection TV. We actually had our hearts set on a plasma (well, she did... I wanted an LCD), but after seeing those prices, and the picture quality of the rear-projection LCDs, we decided to by this one instead. Juan
