Us old guys get to reminisce: we got our first TV ~1957, when I was 10. American Bandstand came on the air in Detroit around '58 or '59...it blew our little pre-adolescent minds.
If I wasn't outside playing, or playing sports, I was watching AB in the afternoon.

DC was a sea change instigator for 'rock', music, dancing, teen stuff, etc, in the late '50s and '60s, imo. He was nearly color blind, didn't pontificate, and just let his show 'roll'.

~ 1989, Veronica & I are in NYC for yet another biz/entertain customers deal and we were staying in the Marriott Grand Marquis, Times Square. As we were waiting to get on those see through elevators, going down, up walks Clark all by himself, to get on. The elevators took awhile, so we introduced ourselves, told him I grew up watching him as a kid/teen, blah blah, blah. Not fawning,
at him, and one could tell he actually gave a damn and was interested, and appreciated my gushing commentary. We bs'd for 3-4 mins, rode down together, and he was gracious, not a 'star', and first class, imo. He grabbed Veronica's arm, and give me a slight push, and we strolled off the elevator 'togehter' like we were a threesome...there stood our out of town customers, who instantly recognized us & Clark. Fookin priceless...what a good sport.

He was also about a third 'smaller' than I would have thought, based just seeing him on the tube, but a remarkable showman, biz man, and smooth operator for all of these years.

Off to Valhalla, after a good run and a remarkable impact on pop music.
