Lenovo Edge 430 opinions

This is for a student going to college. Any thoughts?

PC or Mac you will want the new Ivy Bridge chip set. Wait a month and they will be all over the market.

E61Silver;

Thanks for your input. I believe the Lenovo will be less than
half the cost of your suggestion. Anyone else regarding the "Lenovo Edge 430"?

I think that most people like the Lenovo ThinkPads. We have many loyal ThinkPad users here. The specs seem good and 14" is a decent size screen for portability. The main thing is the price. It's quite reasonable and the 430 looks like it should do well for the usual college stuff.

I have used a lot of Thinkpads (professionally and personally) and recommend them regularly. If durability is a focus, I like the traditional T series. My last two have been the X series, both are 12". That is my current preference when considering weight and portability

Haven't used the Edge, but I wonder if it has more of a consumer/style focus at the expense of traditional Thinkpad quality.

Thinkpads come at different quality levels and performance levels. The T series is very good but not so sure that the Edge is the same. I believe in spending more and have a machine that we last and be useful for 5 years. One thing is for sure you should get the maintenance plan. Still think that in a month, once the Ivy chips are out the computers with older chips will be selling at big discounts.
