Arms proliferation makes us safer... Or, does it?

I wonder why there are no mass shooting (or, as a matter of fact, any shootings) using laser blasters... Oh, maybe it is so, because there are NONE in people's hands...

So, what makes people think that proliferation of small arms (in hands of unstable, untrained general populace) makes us safer and proliferation of big guns (tanks, submarines, missiles in hands of trained military personnel) makes our country vulnerable and unsafe... Contradiction, eh?

I guess the real problem is that people "Think" but their thinking is morally flawed, therefore their conclusions are flawed as well..

Because laser blasters and nuclear weapons cannot be attained legally or illegally. Even if they could be the price would stop 99.9% of people from attaining them. Similar to why there are no poor people at the nice gyms and country clubs we enjoy. Small arms can be bought illegally at any time. Thus leaving the law abiding citizen who isn't allowed these weapons helpless to do anything.

What would you do if you were denied access to firearms and then were victim of a home invasion leaving you traumatized at best or dead? Is the likeliness of that happening just so low that it is acceptable for you? Just curious...

I would do what is supposed to be done - i will suffer losses, but i will NOT take the law into my hands, as you are proposing.

I am an amateur in the law matters and as I would not trust an amateur to operate on my tensils, I should not be allowed or be put in a position when I have to make life/death decisions. We are civilized people, not some monkeys who just came off the trees and do not know how to behave in a social environment.

any stable, normal person can be driven to a point where s/he will want to draw readily available weapon just to PROVE the point...

the LE and military personnel are undergoing special training and still, even they can be wrong... an amateur can be wrong twice as much...

and i don't like being scared by the bad criminals and the need to arm myself - I have heard those stories since I was little kid... bunch of propaganda crap...

I think that bad criminals are real, but that propaganda in this context refers to the culture of fear. Reference the term War on Terror. Or closer to home, the fact that most of us my age used to walk to school unsupervised, and kids these days are largely being driven by their parents, on the assumption that it is less safe out there.

My children went to school alone at age 9, in a South American country, speaking limited Spanish, which wasn't their native tongue. They did the same three years later in the UK. They rode public transit. And they learned self reliance and independence. They are in their early twenties now, so not so long ago.

Yes times have changed, but not as much as we make out. I think the culture of fear has something to do with that. We can reject it.
