Good Desktop deals for under $500?

I'm looking to get a computer for my little sister. I'm trying to spend under $500. She is going to use it for the internet and word processor for homework. Anyone know of any good deals?

I'm currently looking at Dell.
But they have so many different packages that tempt me to spend more money. (spend over $600 get free shipping), (upgrade to flat panel), and (etc.)

Thanks peoples.

Dell usually has some promotional items that are pretty cheap (until you add RAM, etc.). Also, consider the refurbished Dell's.

Thanks guys,
I'm looking at the Dell outlet right now.

I customized a computer for her and it came out to be $583.00 with tax and shipping.

Thanks for all the help;
I've decided on a E310
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 521 w/HT Technology (2.8GHz,800FSB),
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition
256mb memory
17" flat panel lcd
80gb hard drive
Dvd-Rom drive
My total is $583.xx.

I think this is a good deal since I get free shipping but have to pay handling...
Does anyone have any coupon codes? I've found some but it only works for computers over $999.99. Thanks in advance. I'm probably going to order tomorrow morning. Please let me know if you know any codes or you know of a similar computer at a better price.

I would have more RAM, if I was you. At least 512, if you want to avoid very slow response.

I would check out the Mac Mini, if you want to go the Mac route...and there are some rumors that a new Mac Mini will be out next week.

There are some good deals in the Apple "Special Deals" page. You can get a Mac Mini for $429.00

At my workplace we used to use Dell but their cheap quality of materials used and bad tech support has forced us to move to IBM/Lenovo. I have heard that Acer is also good.
