Smile Just got a Sirius S50-Pics added Sunday!

I happened to be in Best Buy today, when I happened by the satellite radio area. I have been considering the Sirius s50, and my understanding is the are out of stock in many places. The rep then told me that someone just returned one-apparently they got it for Christmas but decided they already had a Sirius radio and returned it. Only the plastic on the outer box was missing. Inside, everything was 100% sealed in it's original plastic and packaging and never activated. Saved me an additional 50 bucks with an additional $50 rebate. Total beans $229.

I love the fact that you can download full length songs from Sirius onto the hard drive and take it with you if you wish, as well as adding your own mp3's. I already have a Sirius JVC unit, but I'll leave that for a dedicated unit at work and keep the s50 in the X5.

Thanks, Phester, for your previous review. It got me sparked to pick one up!

It is amazing... I have been totally addicted since I got it.

I also have the sportster replay and it is pretty good too, but the S50 is really a step beyond.

I am a Howard Stern Super Fan, if it were not for his arrival at Sirius, I probably would not have bought the system. Now that I have it, however, i am realizing that Sirius (and Sat Radio as a whole) is what radio should be.

Have fun with it - let me know if you have any questions (like when is the executive system coming out!! geez).

(also, when I bought mine and installed in my car, the antenna would barely get reception. I went down to San Diego and it was terrible - barely any terrestrial or sat reception. I decided to try the antenna that came with the Sportster Replay I got a while back and the antenna aiming was now perfect - rarely a lost signal. Let me know if your S50 antenna seems weak).

Can y'all post some pics of your install in the X? How and where are you going to mount it, get the input into the speakers, etc.... I'm close to pulling the trigger on an S50 of my own. I've installed (well, began to install) the Starmate Replay in my wife's Sienna over the weekend--so far it has been great! I just got the final part for my Aux input in the Sienna today--that is a serious project I have in front of me. Oy vey!

Thanks, Phester. Executive system?? What's that all about?

I currently have the attenna run in my X5 for the previous JVC unit I was running. I was planning on leaving that antenna in place and using it since I already neatly (and discreetly) ran the wiring through the car. The current location of the antenna jack is where I will need it anyway. I'll let you know my results.

The S50 Executive system is a small speaker system where the S50 sits in....

It is like the other boom box style systems for other sat radio units...

I need something like this because the S50 only comes with the car unit, so you cannot listen at home. Also, it only will record from your fav stations when it is off, but plugged in - this wont work in car.

As for installation - I went ghetto style. I have it mounted to the side of the shifter tunnel (on my 5 series). I have the antenna runnung under the passenger seat, running up the side of the rear seats to the child seat hooks in back. The antenna sits behind the middle seat hoping to get reception out the back window. The FM transmitter is only ok, but it works.....

Note there is a firmware update for the S50 available here.

Mine seems to have come with all updates - the software version I have has the same version code....

I guess recent shipments have been updated. I will continue to check as time goes on....

Wow - that thing looks really nice - just went to check the website. If we get it here in Canada, that just might get me interested in satellite radio
I'll look forward to a more detailed review PeteG.
