Should I Be Concerned About High Mileage?

My X5 is an '03, so technically, two years old. However, we bought it in November of 2003. As of today (16 months of ownership), we have racked up a little over 29k miles. Should I be concerned about this? Is this too many miles? What's going to happen in two or three years when I want to buy the new X5 and my current one has so many miles? What is this going to do to my trade-in value?

We may be driving up to NJ in May (another 1300 miles round trip), and I am really starting to worry about this. We would drive my wife's Jaguar (X-Type), but I hate that car (which is partially the reason why my X has so many miles -- she hates it too). I'm glad the lease on that jag is up in June.

Or... should I just enjoy my car and not worry about it?

Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?

thanks!

Juan

I wouldn't be concerned one bit. Your'e driving and enjoying the X5 to its fullest and that's what car ownership is all about.

Continue enjoying the X.

Thanks, and I will!

You do make a good point.

Hopefully, the X5's rate of usage will slow down a bit after June when we lease something else for the CEO. We're thinking an X3.

I agree with Phong. Don't sweat the mileage issue -- just enjoy the machine. Yea, you'll lose a little on trade in but look at all the fun you will have had.

The whole point of owning a depreciating asset like an X is to enjoy the sucker. Otherwise you'd be driving an Oldsmobuick, right?! Drive it like a rental and enjoy every minute of it!

I am annoyed I don't get to drive the X more than I do. I have about 14,500 miles in 16 months of ownership. My trip to the d/l cost me 6 weeks and about 1,500 miles of driving. I think this calls for a road trip!

LOL...

This is why I love posting on this board. Some, and sometimes all, of you have a way of putting things into perspective. You guys are absolutely right. I AM enjoying my ride, and well... should not let the mileage thing worry me.

Again, thanks for your thoughts!

Loving mine as well. 8 months and nearly 17000 miles. Wierd thing about mine is I still have one green bar left. I'm getting around 3400 miles per bar, so it should be going out any day now. High mileage partially from the 25 mile one way drive to work (those are the suckiest miles I have to drive, but they are still fun), and the other part from our family living in the Ozarks. Love those twisties

Well, I am glad to see that someone else is "enjoying his X5 about as much as I am."

You know that you can take the car in for its service the moment it reaches one green bar, right? That's what my dealer told me, anyway. I went some 18k miles before my first service. My second is scheduled for next week. Like I said, I'm racking up those miles! lol
