My opinion is that nothing they do will fix the problem, it will only perhaps delay the inevitable. The system is going to colapse regardless of what they do, short of a complete overhaul and nationalization of the banking industry and the elimination of the Federal Reserve. If they pass this bailout, they will probably succeed in delaying things a few years, but will cause other problems as well.

I couldn't believe my ears after watching the interview, it's so sad for the US to be possibly be represented by someone as "bright" as Sara Palin.Quote:

I find it so interesting how it seems that she is getting so much extra scrutiny than Joe Biden, or Obama for that matter. I guess the novelty brings the attention but it all seems a bit unfair.

I am one of the few in my Geezer Group here that are not smitten with
Palin; one might think she is Joan of Arc, Ma Theresa and Madame Curie rolled into one, by the way my old buds moon and rave over her, (and the lil'Mac, too...) I think she is barely ok, a former mayor of a tiny white trash town in AK, now a 2 yr, so-so gov of a huge state, that w/out the oil biz would barely have the economy/GDP of a single county surrounding NYC, etc. Remember Jesse Ventura, the semi-successful Gov of MN? Did/does anyone think he ought to be the freakin VP candidate? He at least had some track record, ran the state for more than 20 mins and has 20 IQ pts min. on Palin. My basic wonderment is: if she were 55, 40 lbs heavier, 3 notches down in the "looks" dept., most of the country woulda said, "Huh? Are you sh#%%ing me!" and we wouldn't be caught up in "those meanies in the press are badgering her", imo. I think she is a good mom, good wife, probably an ok local politician and that's the extent of my poz thoughts about her... The hubbub and fawning have died down; I will be surprised if she doesn't make Dan Qualye look like a statesman and MENSA candidate by comparo...

That interview was bullsh*t. Compare Couric's treatment of Palin (whom she won't even call Governor) with Biden:
Not apply any ideological label: (“We decided to take a closer look at the 65-year-old Senator from Delaware.”) Hail his outspokenness: (“You say what's on your mind and I think people appreciate that.”) Ignore obvious factual/historical flubs: (Biden: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on television...”) FDR was not in office at the time of the 1929 crash and his "fireside chats" were on the radio. Relay as reality positive campaign spin about his attributes: (“Relating to the fears of the average American is one of Biden's strong suits.”) Cue up campaign rally attendees to praise: (“What was it about what he said that really resonated with you in particular?” Answers: “I think he expressed what most working Americans feel at the moment. He seems to relate to our pain.” and “I want him in office because I believe he will do things for women.”) Empathize with the challenge he faces at the upcoming debate: (“Are you worried you're going to have to pull your punches a bit because of her gender and you don't want to seem like you're bullying her? It's a different dynamic when it's a male/female thing, isn't it? I'm not a Republican but I think she handled the snotty little Couric (who REALLY isn't very smart) very well. Look at both interviews and Palin comes off as a genuis compared to Biden. |

Kev,
If u remember a few months ago, Obama got the scrutiny that you're referring to with his old priest and other scandals that everyone thought were going to sink him. Biden has been around for decades so no wonder the media is basically ignoring him, we've seen and know how and what he says. Palin is new and you're right the novelty brings the attention, it's up to her to use the limelight and win some votes. However since her IQ doesn't seem to be where expected, it's back-firing. Voters want to see and hear, learn about their future potential leaders, that's why the attention is on her. Quote:
