Did you have to show proof of ID when you voted?

I didn't. Everyone in line was told that proof of identification is not needed. They only needed the registration card. Was it the same for everybody else?

That doesn't seem right to me. I had to show my ID at the polls.

Id. required in Louisiana. The id verification is pretty good. One checks the Id, calls out the name, the other finds your name in the roll and verifies your signature.

As I posted in my Early Vote thread, here in NC, no ID of any kind
is req'd. The poll guy, at check-in, simply asked my last name, he
looked me up in his laptop, asked my first and middle name, my mailing addy,
and then asked if this was my current legal address.

I had to sign an 8 1/2x11 sheet of paper with my info that he printed out,
(it also contained a bar code), and that was my ticket to vote.

Some reading turns up a strong opposition here in NC, for no ID
of any kind, as the politicos suggest that many of the "rural and
elderly", etc. don't have access to a photo id and a non-photo
ID is not worth the paper it's printed on. Hard to understand here
in 2008...hillbilly heaven.

Nope. In MD it is only required if you are voting at a certain location for the first time. We don't need any proof..just name/address/dob

It's hard to understand how anybody with an address cannot be checked for any type of identification. It clearly states on the registration card to show proof of identification yet they won't even bother to check your id even if you give it to them. Different polls for me, my gf, my parents, and co-workers(one actually lives in IL). Id's weren't even bothered to be checked at all locations. Three registration cards were sent at my parents house that had change of address and one has done an absentee vote. I could have grabbed those and voted multiple times. I am not that type of guy but I can't speak for everyone else. They might as well make voting through the internet.

Good thing I didn't because I lost my wallet on Sunday...Man I hate losing my wallet.

Anyway, I just told them my name which they cross referenced on a list and verified my address. Then I had to sign and list my address on a separate form.

In and out in 5 minutes. There was only me and three election volunteers in the building at the time at 3:45pm Pacific time. That is Sad.
