Big bad Wal-Mart

Man, they just don't know how to treat people, evil corporation...

Wal-Mart Giving Workers $933M In Bonuses - Money News Story - WKMG Orlando

Quote:
Wal-Mart Giving Workers $933M In Bonuses
Average Employee Bonus Equals $667

POSTED: Friday, March 20, 2009
UPDATED: 8:01 am EDT March 20, 2009
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Retail giant Wal-Mart will hand out its largest annual award -- $2 billion -- which includes bonuses to every part-time and full-time hourly employee.

The $2 billion includes 401k contributions, about $1 billion in profit-sharing, millions of dollars in merchandise discounts and $933 million in bonuses. The average cash bonus for employees will be $667.
That probably equates to more than the average "stimulus check". We REALLY need the government to come in and setup labor unions there....

Yes, about $900 an employee, plus another ~$700 for their 401(k), etc.

From today's WSJ:
"The bonus averages $933.60 for each qualified employee, ranging from cashiers to shelf stockers."

If the "gov't" ran WalMart, they would be in Chap 11 or, 7 by now.

In my recent chats I think it is a silent majority that is slowly growing louder.

The problem with super Walmart is that they locate just outside of town.

This causes other retailers to locate next to Walmart and kills the original downtown shopping center. The result is that the local stores get killed. The downtown is now blighted and the individually and service of the smaller retailers is gone.

Survival of the fittest, shoppers CHOOSE Walmart, they could have gone to local stores.

I was really not commenting directly shoppers going to Walmart, more the long term impact on the community and the local downtown business districts. Local Villages and Town try to stop Walmart and other big box retailers and this results in Walmart and others locating just outside of town.
