Read up on the PATRIOT Act and the NSA dealings with AT&T. As far as the citizens having the power, Bush used a lot of signing statements and claimed "executive power" to get around the citizens' views.

How did the legislation get to Bush's desk? Congress, your elected officials. (FYI, every President in recent memory has had signing statements, including the current one who said "I wil not")

And again, which exact "RIGHT" was infringed upon? The only one you could remotely argue, and fail, would be the 4th Amendment. But that is about it. Democrats have been attempting to strip the 2nd Amendment for decades overtly. And per the AT&T deal, AT&T failed. They broke their customers confidence.
