New healthcare bill . . . WTF!

I just brushed up on the summary aspects of the new healthcare bill and I did not see anything in there about reducing the cost of healthcare . . . . Wasn't the whole point of addressing the healthcare issue about making healthcare affordable for most americans? How can you do that w/o reducing the cost of healthcare?

There we go again addressing the symptoms and not the real problem. And somebody please explain to me how lobbyists are legal. That is the best example of outright bribery I can think of . . . and it's legal? Crack does less harm to the society than lobbyists do.

LOL . . . I'm not going to hold my breath on that one. Although it would come in handy since my X costs that much every 3 months to keep it on the road. I don't know which one is least dependable . . . Obama or my X.

Is there a reason we couldn't have made all the changes here that didn't include: rebates, refunds, costs, etc...as a first run through????

From my Rep, who voted NO on HC:

On November 7, 2009 the House passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) with a final vote passage of 220-215. On Christmas Eve, the Senate passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H. R. 3590) with a final vote passage of 60-39. This bill was over 2,000 pages and included a 383 page manager's amendment, privately drafted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. It included many special deals that were negotiated in order to secure the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate bill. These outrageous backroom deals not only will result in higher taxes but are also unconstitutional. Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution states all "Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States."
The House voted on Sunday, March 21, 2010 on the Senate bill and also a Reconciliation bill (H. R. 3590 and H. R. 4872). The House voted to pass the Senate bill 219 - 212. The House approved the reconciliation bill to "fix" the Senate bill by a vote of 220- 211. The Senate is scheduled to begin debate on the Reconciliation bill. However, only once in 22 times has the Senate approved a House Reconciliation bill without changing it. If the Senate amends the Reconciliation bill, another vote by the House would be needed to make any changes after the Senate bill is signed into law by President Obama.
I voted against both of these bills because they put bureaucrats in Washington instead of patients and doctors in control of Americans' health care. I voted against them because higher taxes, unfunded mandates and deficit-spending under the bills will reduce jobs and economic growth. I am disappointed that these trillion dollar bills were crafted in secret violating the promises of transparency and accountability by the President and Democrat congressional leaders.
Changes the Senate Democratic bill would make include a new regime of government-run exchanges and insurance regulations. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected the Senate bill would cause as many as 8-9 million Americans to lose their current employer-sponsored coverage?"thus breaking the central promise of then-Senator Obama's presidential campaign. The Senate bill also includes employer mandates which would impose new taxes on businesses which will destroy current and new jobs during a time when millions of Americans are struggling with unemployment. Employers who do not offer coverage would face a $2,000 fine per employee. Even if a small business owner offers coverage, they will have to pay up to $3,000 per employee if the coverage is considered inadequate or unaffordable by the federal government.
Former Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin explained that Enron-style accounting was used to game the CBO to get a "score" so the Senate and bill could appear to be fiscally responsible. Writing in the New York Times, he noted that CBO "is required to take written legislation at face value and not second-guess the plausibility of what it is handed. So fantasy in, fantasy out." For instance, "taxes and fees begin immediately, but new subsidies would be deferred first 10 years of revenue would be used to pay for only 6 years of spending." Instead of more than $100 billion in claimed deficit reduction, if all of the accounting gimmicks were eliminated, the Democratic health bill actually "generates additional deficits of $562 billion in the first 10 years."

The Senate bill increases taxes by $569.2 billion over ten years. Individuals who purchase insurance, individuals who do not purchase insurance, and small and large businesses alike will be affected by new and increased taxes that will kill jobs and raise premiums. Additionally, the bill includes $528.5 billion in cuts to Medicare, cutting benefits and raising premiums on seniors. These cuts will not be used to reduce the deficit, or improve the Medicare program. Instead these Medicare cuts would be used to create a new entitlement program for taxpayer-paid subsidies to buy insurance. These subsidies won't start until 2014. CBO projected that cuts in Medicare Advantage plans would result in higher premiums and dropped coverage for more than 10 million seniors. Congress can not repeal the economic laws of supply and demand. The consequences of the Senate bill will be rationed health care for seniors under Medicare, lower-income Americans under Medicaid, as well as reduced quality, fewer innovations, less competition, higher premiums and higher health care costs for all Americans.
I am disappointed and saddened by the deal struck between some pro-life democrats and President Obama regarding taxpayer funding of abortions. Republicans proposed to amend the Senate bill with the Stupak amendment from the House bill. The Stupak amendment had been supported by 64 Democrats. It would ensure taxpayer funds could not be used for abortions. The Republican amendment was rejected 232- 199, with support from 22 Democrats.
The President has said that he will sign an Executive Oder that will bar taxpayer funding of abortions. Unfortunately, this Executive Order only applies to federal agencies. An Executive Order does not change the law. This Executive Order will be ignored by the Courts because it is superseded when the Senate bill becomes law. Any President could repeal the Executive Order. The only way of ensuring that public funding would not be used for abortion would be by repealing the legislation and starting over.
I earned Master's and Doctorate degrees in Human Physiology. It is inarguable that life begins when the woman becomes pregnant. I believe that abortion is the unjustified taking of human life. The Constitution protects the freedom of the people to express their moral and religious views and their right to life. I will continue to work to uphold the Constitution and protect the right to life. I will also continue to work to restore the value of human life and fight for the rights of unborn members of the human family.
I believe that we can reform health care without having a government takeover of the healthcare system and by giving the American people more choices and not more government. One of the most beneficial and powerful changes we could make is having consumers own their own health insurance policies instead of being controlled by employers. This would ensure portability between jobs which is when most people are uninsured.
For these reasons I support H. R. 3400, the Empowering Patients First Act. This legislation focuses on granting patient-centered health insurance to all Americans, would improve the delivery structure, and manage and reduce out of control costs through medical liability reform. This legislation does not include all of the changes I recommend; however, it would strengthen the relationships between patients and doctors, which would be at the core, instead of an afterthought in improving health care. It would empower Americans to own and control their health care and provide more choices, competition, and innovation to health coverage.

Wagner, don't you know that facts have no place on this site regarding this topic? No one understands the bill, no one, so how can your rep make such bold faced statements, he surely can't be the only one who understands the new law....

God Bless the USSA.

Nobody bothers to actually look at all the aspects of actions, sadly. But it isn't new. Your only option is to isolate these individuals and remove them from office.
