From VA Beach to "where"?
EDIT: Ah, I GOOG'd it...Memphis. Sort of north of us, in terms of crossing the Apps, but we can divert you, lol!

I suspect that between n2red & I, we know every good/great road in western NC/eastern TN. And, having done 5 cross country m'cyle trips,
I have my faves west of the Mississippi, too. When you get closer to
the trip, remind us, for some suggestions.

Thanks for those most kind words!!!

Hopefully, this spring fire season will be a bit wetter than last spring and and fire activity will be lower.

Beautiful Dillsboro is our full time home, so we're residents.

Gimme a shout when you're back in God's Country.... and resist the overwhelming urge to "moon" me as I fly over.........

You are welcome and deservedly so, imo!

We did 5 years, full time, up at 5,000 ft after building and moving
in from NY. It will make most parts of one "stiff" up there in winter;
thus, we relented and hide out here in Naples for a few months during
winter.

Mooning! You would need a telescope in the cockpit...

We get a kick out of the C130s rolling through the valley, 2000 feet
"below" us.

One of my best GeezerBuds, back on the Mtn, flew choppers in the Marines, for a 30 yr career...

Off topic, but is there a No-Burn law in NC or TN? I know in VA, open fires are prohibited before 4pm, evidenced by the zillions of signs on every highway in central VA.

Flew military for 20 years..... started in Vietnam and finished with Desert Storm.... and been with the Forest Service for ten years.....

Yeah, the C130's do low level (nap of the earth) training here and the high speed jets train from 10,000 feet and above. This entire area is a MOA... with a hard floor of 10,000 feet when the MOA (Military Operationa Area) is active.

BTW, the last of the December snow has just melted off Balsam Gap, so spring can't be far behind....

In NC, no..... only when we have unusually dry weather does the affected county(ies) petition the Governor (sorry for hijacking a Blazing Saddles line), to proclaim a no-burning edict.

Generally speaking, landowners may do as they wish, as long as it;s not deemed as a "public nusiance" as defined by local ordanances or disturbing the wetlands by environmentalists....

... but you MUST have your headlights on if driving in the rain.....

I'd say from the number of fireworks on my side of the border that I'll have to smuggle those up Those are a no-no I think.

Well, "burning" doesn't really apply to Fireworks or explosives. It just means you can't say, start a campfire in the forest at 10am because you might burn all of Central Virginia down since it's one massive stretch of softwoods.

There are a ton of Fireworks tents/stalls in VA around 4. July and compared to MD, VA has far more lenient restrictions. I don't even recall any fireworks being publicly sold in MD.

Back on topic, I wouldn't mind a meet sometime in mid-May after school ends. It's just 3 hours away..........

MD,
Got a book on scenic drives in USA and there are 3-4 listed in your area. It's on my bucket list.

Have a graduation to attend 11 June in Pilot Mountain,NC, so I'll be heading west on I40 afterwards. Figure I'm only going to be here in SC 20-24 months. Plan on moving back to Idaho. I'll be sure to check in with you before I do. Hopefully, the housing market will have recovered some by then. not "underwater", had put down 30% when I bought, plus principal payments, puts me well in the black. Have a great summer.

If there is a meet scheduled before then, count my 2001 X5 4.4 in
