BMW 1-Series Sighting !

I was driving back from Ottawa to Toronto on Sunday afternoon.

I came down from Ottawa down the 416, and entered the 401 going west towards Toronto.

Just after I passed Kingston, I spotted a dark red BMW 1-Series with some decals on the side doors going the other direction.

I am sure it was the 1-Series because I've seen many of those during my Europe trip earlier this year.

How is it possible that I saw a 1-Series in Canada?! Are they after all planning a launch?

How can you possibly see them "all the time" when they aren't sold officially in neither the US nor Canada?

Unless all the mule testers drive down your street of course, which has a probability of less than 1%.

Wealthy people who live in Mexico drive them over the border into S.D.

On a completely unrelated note, there have been many test mules spotted driving around S.F. & L.A. (different then the ones blondboinsd is seeing, because they have plates marked DLR). So its not too hard to imagine one driving around in Canada.

At least for the U.S., they are doing testing for the chassis of the 2 series (coupe & cabrio models) which will be based on the current road going 1 series (E87).

Ah well there's the explanation. Actually, there is a dealer called Durham BMW located in Whitby, Ontario. That's right on the 401 where I saw the 1-Series, and that is head office for BMW Canada...

Nice one Ian. I love the Google graphic complete with your directions. While it does nothing to show us the 1er you spotted it provides some eye candy and lessens the likelihood you'd get one of these responses. :D

I did see one in my town and it was probably from Mexico. There was an article of it in Roundel where they did test a 1-series from Mexico.

There is a possibility of US release. Not decided yet though.
