Test drove 335i today
Damn this car is fast. It has to be the fastest non Mcar BMW i have ever driven. And that 5.3 sec 0to60 bmw quotes is bullshit. This thing is easily as fast as a E46 M3 or very close to it. With all the torque at such low rpm it almost feels like my E39 M5. But the bottom end power on this thing is incredible Its got a shit load right off idle. And let me tell you it has not turbo lag. This car is incredible. If the 335 is this good I cant wait for the E92 M3 to show its face. If the 335 is a monster the M3 will surely be a beast. I actually think the 335 is the fastest Non M car in BMWs line up right now. It fells definately faster than a 650i and the 650 is the fastest inthe line as of now. I recomend this car highly. I just cant wait for a 535XI or a X5 3.5
I think they really should have put this motor in the Z4 M coupe. |
How does it sound?
|
Sweet. Got to love that much torque that low.

Auto or standard? Sure would be nice if Nicole and I can afford the 335i sedan as opposed to the 328i. She'll be happy with either, and I'm afraid the 335i will make me want to upgrade the M3 (all NA of course, Sunbelt anyone :) Stickley??? OBD-I conversion?? S54 swap?).
The questions though... will auto impact the fun factor? Some people had auto twin turbo Supras because the turbo actually took better to the auto. Will there be an e90 M3 along with the e92 M3, or will they just add a "performance package" to the 335i? Aside from hp:weight, the 328i could probably spank my M :( When will we start seeing 328, 335 sedans??? October or is October the first build date? I think I want to drive one just for fun :) |
it was stick and hauled ass. I dont think the 328 will be faster than your E36 M3 though

drove one today also. 1 word.. Torquey. Pulls like a freight train from 1300 on til redline and definitely does feel more like a V8. Still think the styling is a little plain but the car is wide and has a nice stance to it. The gear box is solid and throws are fairly short and not clunky like the M coupe/M roadsters. Overall, a very refined package. The demo that I drove was MSRP'ed at 50K though. For a daily driver the gas mileage and the torque can't be beat and IMO, is a better buy than the E46 M3.
to answer xx3's question, it has a throaty exhaust note similar to the 330i's but the turbo's a super quiet and you cannot even hear them spool. |
I think BMW altered the gearing a bit to better the get up and go

Compared to the E90 330 sedan, they have actually raised the gearing (lower numerically) in both the first four gears of the manual box, and the final drive ratios for both the manual and automatic. Shows how much torque this thing must have. I think I want one. At the very least I want to go drive one. |
Car and Driver did a short piece on the 335i and got one 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. They said that was as fast as the last M3 they tested.
I may have been premature buying an X3... |
hmmm.... that 335i or M3 may just have to be my next car... :D
Thanks for the report... can't wait to test-drive one myself. Juan |
