Ordering a 335i Next Week, Thoughts?
The wife and I have decided to order a 335 next week after some deliberation. We considered the Infinity G35 and the Lexus 350, but I think the 335 is the right choice. What do you guys think?
We went through this same thought process before buying her is300 three years ago and we always regretted not getting the 3 series. I know this is the first production year for their new engine, but hopefully most of the bugs have been worked out. I've read everything I can find online and I'm pretty much sold, but the knowledge pool at X5world has never let me down before so I figured I'd ask. |
I'd have either the 335 or Lexus IS over the G35......but between the Lexus and 335 it is a tough choice. The IS is cheaper and Toyota has an insane reliability rating, however the 335 is tight. Guess it is personally what you like.

:congratulations: on your 335i decision. You're buying an M3 in sheep's clothing. What's not to like (except for the ultra-bland interior)? It's already been documented that the 335i engine is probably pushing 340hp at the flywheel.
OK, who stole the congratulations smilie? |
Thanks all, we actually considered waiting because, as you know, BMW usually brings out sportier wheels and front fascias as the years for each model progress, but waiting is really an understated activity. I'm sure the whole sleeper thing will be fun for a while before the Mustang GT drivers of the the world catch on...
Hold on son, Daddy's driving... JK, no racing with children in the car.:) |
I wouldn't say insane.. They just issued a huge recall on Highlanders, Rav4s and Corollas. I've seen a lot of 335i's coming back into the dealer for overheating. I would personally wait to get through the 1st year growing pains. The new G35s is a pretty well put together car. Lots of HP and interior now is 1st class for mid 30K, can't be beat price and performance wise. The IS350 and 335i's are pricey.

New G35 with manual and limited options (perf package/Nav/Sat radio) brings you in around $40K....right beside the Lexus and BMW.
IMO the new G35 look is horrible. I thought the previous body was much better. -- eh, for what its worth: http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...o_head_20.html |
The new G35 is a good value. Lots of techno-goodies, much lower price. It's fast, but the engine apparently lacks refinement.. Up in the higher RPMs, its very rough. Also, I think it's ugly. the 335i is the best choice, IMO.

The new G35 is a fantastic car, and an even better value. This isn't to discredit the 335i by any means, but G35 brings more to the table overall accounting for other features and prices. Since the previous generation of Nissan's, they have been producing some of the best naturally aspirated engines in the world bar supercars.

Out of the three, I say go for the 335i. It has a better transmission either way than the other two, and there's monsterous power on that. Don't forget sport package!

Absolutely get the 335. I test drove the Lexus and did not like it at all. It has some nice bells and whistles but the feel was pure Toyota, which is fine if one likes that but if you're a BMW man/woman then the 335 is the way to go. The other two things about the IS is that it is tiny inside and I'm not a big guy. The back seats are torture for adults. Ask SuperGreg who was sitting in the back during the test drive. :D Also, factor in the lack of "free" maintenance with the Lexus. I figure that you'll save some money there since BMW still provides that.
As far as options go, Sport Package is a must. My E90 has it and it is just incredible. The ride is so perfect and not too stiff. I skipped the Active Steering and Adaptive Cruise. Both are a waste of money, IMO. Even though the navigation is not great, you should get it to get the great control of the iDrive. I am not super hot on iDrive but it is far better than the first iteration. The voice commands make life a little easier. For pure cool factor, Comfort Access is good to get. I have been having some issues with mine and more than a few times have stood with my thumb on the door handle like an idiot waiting for something to happen but overall, it's very convenient. I have test driven an E92 335i and it was just fantastic. The power is so abundant and there is simply nothing like it. I don't regret getting the 330 but at the time I ordered it the E90 335 was still far out on the horizon. Who knew it would make it over so soon. :dunno: As I said though, the 330 is still a very, very good car and I still enjoy it as does my wife. Good thing it's a lease. :D Are you getting an E90 or E92? If E90, you've got to take a look at my Blackline rear lights. I got them before the car was even delivered. http://www.myfantasyfriday.com/e90/06 http://www.myfantasyfriday.com/e90/07 |
G35= too noisey in the back seat.
Is-350= Fast, typical Lexus but those rear doors are for midgets. 335i= A little too small for us. we got a 530i. |
Picked up my 335i coupe over Thanksgiving weekend, and haven't gotten the smile off my face yet. Absolutely the most fun I've ever had driving a car (normal driving, not track). No 1st year problems yet.

2007 BMW 335i Sedan
I just picked up a 2007 BMW 335i sedan last tuesday. Got it with cold weather, sport, premium packages, and nav. This car is awesome! This is a 4 door M3 without the badging. I love this car! I suggest you get one asap.
